Diagram note on diagrams
« on: August 07, 2008, 05:48:14 pm »
Hi, is there anyway to have the diagram note appear automatically in to top left corner of a diagram without having to drag and drop it there every time?

There is a strange duality with diagram notes :).
You can take it from the toolbar (as you do I suppose)
or you can go to Diagram>Properties>[Diagram]>Appearance>Show diagram details
They seem to show similar though not exactly the same information :) this may be either a bug or a feature :)
The only thing is the latter does position itself automatically in upper left corner as you wanted.

It's a bug ...

Diagram Details and Diagram Notes are NOT the same thing...

Diagram Notes and Diagram Linked Notes are also NOT the same thing...

[But I'll get back into my consistent box again...]

I think that depends on point of view, Paolo. Diagram Details and Diagram Notes have different names but they present similar information that you can't edit directly, the only meaningful difference is that you can move the latter. I would expect them to be the same.
I think it would be useful if you could have one variant and configure it with text macros-> %DiagramName%, %DiagramVersion%, %DiagramAuthor%, %DiagramModified% etc.

I don't know what you mean by Diagram Linked Notes? Are those the ones that you can link to internal element information? These are only ones that come to mind.

Please see

The diagram properties note does not automatically get created in the top left corner precisely because that is the location the diagram details note always occupies. The two objects are different and separate. If you hide the details note, it is still there. It is just not exposed. You can move the properties note on top of it, but if you subsequently select the Show Diagram Details checkbox you might then wonder what is going on in the top left corner.
