EA causes a computer crash
« on: November 05, 2008, 09:45:14 pm »
I am using EA 7.1.833 to work on a medium size project (81 packages, 1156 elements).

Sometimes when I am drawing diagrams - suddenly, without any premonition - the whole computer is rebooting.
- the screen becomes black
- and the computer starts the BIOS boot program.

This happens only if I am working with EA.

Has anyone else problems similar to this?

Thanks

I've got this when pressing on esc while a menu is on screen
(So a right menu or something)

Tip: don't touch escape while playing with Enterprise Architect

Excessively did this without problems.
If the computer reboots into BIOS startup then something more is broken than just EA.
However EA uses lots of ressources (RAM and hard disc) and I would guess into the blue that the excessive usage of these ressources triggers some already existing hardware defect issues (memory chips, chipset, etc.).

Or maybe your keyboard has a wiring problem with the escape key which sends electric spikes into the board :)

Can be anything but EA, I would assume.

I recently helped someone who was having some crashes across unrelated parts of EA.  Turned out to be the JET driver, and changing EA to use Jet 4.0 (Tools | Options | General | Use Jet 4.0) solved the problem.

May or may not help you.  But please contact support directly if your problems persist.
