Selection of elements within layers
« on: January 08, 2009, 08:02:28 pm »
In case there are several layers of objects, with different sizes, there is no option to select the smaller object by defining a select area (with the mouse). when you are defining a select area, all the objects that are touched from this area are selected and not only the objects that are contained in this area. This issue adds design time.

It should work as in Visio/PPT...you only select what is within the selected area, it makes it very difficult to move around a group of elements within a containing one - Very problematic for UI design.

What you can do, is mark the containing object as non-selectable.  Even if temporarily.

Maybe it's because I'm used to it, but I favour the current behavior.

It is OK for elements you use very little, but for UI deign it is very problematic. Some times you move to move panels, and some times elements within the panel.
