Version Control (CVS) settings not working

I have ben trying to set the packages to use CVS as repository.
I followed the documentation, and in  fact I can commit the packages to CVS as I can see it in the working copy and on the server itself.

But other than that, I cannot check in/out (I always get an error sayng that "there is nothing checked out while the only visible option says "check-in branch").

And the icons in the project browser do not show any indicator as the documentation describes.

I am sure it's a nuance that I am overlooking. I am on 7.1.834 Professional.
