Can't connect to MySQL server
« on: November 24, 2009, 08:13:45 pm »
Hi,

I'm experiencing an issue, I am no expert in neither EA nor databases, so I just explain what I need to do and does not work. :)

We (at work) use EA and projects are stored in svn repository in MySQL database, or something like that. I mean when I want to use EA projects, I need to have MySQL ODBC driver and subversion command line client.

Now what. I installed svn client, MySQL ODBC driver (ver. 3.51, because everyone at work uses this version, not 5) and created user DSN and System DSN. At this point everything seems all right. I use server name and user name (no password needed), and dropdown with databases populates. Now I choose the one desired (called EA :)), and click on "Test" button, it says "Success; connection was made!".

Now, I open EA, click "connect to server... ", choose "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers", click next, "refresh" the data sources and...

1) no system DSN appears there (well, I dont know if there would not appear ANY system DSN, because there is just the ONE, that I created before),
2) every user DSN appear (there are three more, but I think these are sample ones, and definitly not MySQL), but when I choose the EA_usr (the one I just created) and click "test connection", error appears - translated something like

'Test connection didn't succeed because of inicialization error of connector. [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Administrator] Title of the data source was not found and any default driver was not specified'.

When OK clicked, dialog with exclamation-mark-in-yellow-triangle-icon appears with text

'Invalid Data Source... Check configuration.'

This method definitely works on other PCs at work (even with system DSN used;they use WinXP) and even on one Vista business 32bit OS. I dont really know, how to solve this issue. I thought my Vista Business 64bit OS could be the reason, but dont know how to check it, while I don't have any Windows 32bit OS installed.

Versions:
OS Windows Vista Business 64bit, service pack 2
MySQL ODBC 3.51.27.00 Driver
EA 7.5.845 - Unicode (does not work with neither Lite nor full version)

Once again, sorry for having bad english and not being expert in this domain. If you'd like more information about some stuff, please, let me know (and maybe tell me how to aquire it :)).

Thanks in advance
Michal
