Network error creating a new project link
« on: January 05, 2011, 01:41:18 am »
As the start of a new project I've had an adminstrator create a new database for me. The 'SQLServer_EASchema.sql' has run succesful.

I start EA 7.5 and 'Connect to Server'
Next I select Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server.
I enter the servername and select windows authentication for logging on.
Now I can select the newly create database from the combobox.
I click 'Test Connection' and that tells me it works.
Now I click OK and can enter 'Connection Name & Type'. I just capitalize the name and leave other options default.

If I click OK, the following message appears:
'Enterprise Architect has experienced a network error and will close down'

Why is this? Why is EA complaining about a network error? Is there something wrong with the created link? Should I've set other options/properties?

I've tried it several times now and it fails again and again.

I didn't realise I had to create an .eap first and then transfer it. I assumed that once the script ran I could go and use the project.

It's a bit harsh to simply shut down EA instead of giving me a clear message that I should read the manual :)
