Resolving conflicts with replicas / design masters
« on: June 13, 2011, 06:19:12 am »
Still using EA 7.5.850 (there are good reasons for that).

When synchronizing a replica back to the design master, if I get conflicts, I have pretty much given up on trying to figure out the cryptic stuff I get in the Resolve Synchronization Errors dialog box.  I have asked the question here several times and there doesn't appear to be a way to even determine which object on the diagram has the conflict.

So, I'm reduced to making my best guess and going from there.  Fortunately, in most cases (though not all) the conflicts relate to positioning on the diagram (or at least that's my best guess...) so I'm living with just picking one and going with it.

My question is... I open up the design master, sync my replica, get conflicts, close the design master, open up my replica, and go to resolve the conflicts... Whose stuff is "Keep Current" and whose stuff is "Overwrite with Conflict"?  If I "Keep Current" am I keeping the stuff that's in my replica, or the stuff that's in the master?

A related question... Does Version 8 or Version 9 improve markedly on this design master / replica process?  Really, the ideal, which I asked for a couple of years ago and am Really Hoping that it or something like it got implemented, was to show the conflicts on the diagram, in different colors or something unambiguous like that, and let the user select the one he wants to keep.  That would make things so easy.

Thanks...
