Suggestions and Requests / Public Bug/Feature Tracking
« on: October 30, 2009, 09:31:13 am »
I would love to see a public bug and feature tracker for EA. That way I could search for existing bugs before spending the time to file a new defect report. It would also allow users to vote on the bug fixes and features that they would most like to see fixed/implemented. A great example of this is Atlassian JIRA, used to track defects and feature requests in Atlassian products:

http://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF#selectedTab=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.project%3Aissues-panel

Yes Please!

And an important note - the link should be based on the GUID of the target element, so if the name of the target changes, the text of the link changes to match automatically.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Extra cols in Use Case doc

I would also greatly appreciate this. I would also like a column to specify the actor for the step (e.g. User or System) as well as a column for Alternate Flows related to that step.

General Board / Re: Parallel usage of EA 7.5 and 8 on a eap reposi
« on: April 20, 2010, 09:19:18 am »
When I tried this before I found that the spelling errors that 8.0 (Beta) flagged showed up as static colored text in 7.5. I filed a bug about it that was hopefully fixed in the final version, but you might want to check.

General Board / Re: How to exclude fragment from RTF document?
« on: March 12, 2010, 04:26:15 am »
In the RTF Template editor, go to the File menu and select "Document Options". There are two scrolling lists that allow to exclude specific object types or connector types. Select what you want to exclude, and save the template. That element type will no longer show in your RTF.

Sparx support is very responsive and helpful. They can inform of you how to do something, and suggest workarounds when something is not working. They definitely offer great support!

This would be fantastic. It would also be handy to be able to reset the aspect ratio of an object if someone tweaked it.

General Board / Re: Compare Arbitrary Baseline Versions
« on: January 22, 2010, 09:38:55 am »
I do have auditing turned on already, but find it somewhat hard to use. The compare utility provides easier viewing of differences.

I submitted a feature request already. On the surface, it seems like it would be easy to implement. Instead of always using the current model as one of the two inputs to the comparison tool, allow selection of a different baseline/XMI file for that input. The second input for comparison would behave the same way as it does already.

The basic question I was trying to answer was - did package x change between baselines a and b? How about between baselines a and c?

I guess I need to submit a feature request...

General Board / Compare Arbitrary Baseline Versions
« on: January 20, 2010, 08:48:26 am »
Is there a way to compare two arbitrary baseline versions? For example, I want to see see what changed between baseline 1.0 and baseline 2.0, and my current model is already past baseline 4.0. The only way I can see is to do something like this:

  • Restore baseline 2.0
  • Do comparison with baseline 1.0
  • Do something with the differences as needed (audit, for example)
  • Restore current baseline 4.0

This is kind of a hassle if I just want to get a quick overview of what changed.

General Board / Current Baseline Being Used?
« on: January 06, 2010, 08:32:16 am »
I have multiple baselines in my model document, and need to modify different baselines in a non-linear fashion. So I may save a baseline, then revert to a different baseline to work on that one, then save a baseline of that version and return to work on another.

The question is, is there any way to find out which baseline version I am currently modifying?

General Board / Re: "Update Styles" to load styles from norm
« on: December 12, 2009, 09:05:54 am »
I'm in the same boat. I really don't want to have to recreate all of my templates. The help specifically says:

"Existing styles are not replaced. "  >:(

So how do I update the styles in my existing templates? Maybe through exporting the template as an RTF and manually replacing the style definitions???

General Board / Re: What's the point of MTS Files???
« on: December 08, 2009, 04:52:55 am »
Oliver, I think your last comment clarified it for me. MDG technologies are shared through XML files. The MTS file is like a configuration file used to generate the XML file. The benefit of using the MTS file is that you can use a wizard to create/update it. If you don't need the wizard, you don't need the MTS.

In the help, it states that Searches and Model Views can be shared by manually adding them to the MTS file. This is all I am really trying to do. So if the MTS file is just used to generate the MDG XML, then can I add the shared Searches and Model Views directly to the MDG XML? It seems to work OK for the Searches, but not for Model Views. So I have trying to figure out if there is a problem with the way I set up the Model Views, or if the Model Views could ONLY be added to an MTS file. This was the source of all my confusion - that the help file says these elements must be added to an MTS file.

Thanks for all of your input, everyone.

So can I skip the MTS file altogether and just use an XML file if I create it manually?
