Suggestions and Requests / Re: Read source controlled XMI with EALite
« on: February 28, 2006, 02:32:07 am »
Ok. I have an updated suggestion for this. Rather than EALite having the functionality in-built to read XMI packages how about a standalone command-line utility that you can point at a folder full of XMI packages which then reads them and creates an EAP project file.

This way, any EALite users can participate with source controlled XMI packages. They simply refresh their local copy of the XMI packages with the latest baseline from source control, run the command-line converter utility to create the project file from the XMI packages, then fire up EALite to read it.

Suggestions and Requests / Read source controlled XMI with EALite
« on: February 20, 2006, 01:10:58 am »
It would be very useful if source controlled XMI packages can be read by EALite. Its frustrating at present because although EALite is a great value add for us its losing some of its appeal because it cannot view source controlled XMI packages.

We now have to maintain a separate EA project for the developers and remember to update it with the latest XMI packages. This means that the architects and the developers could be looking at different data if the separate EA project is not kept up to date.

What I would like is that on running EALite a developer could just point it at the source controlled XMI packages in order to view them. That would be great.

Suggestions and Requests / Model merge
« on: February 14, 2006, 08:30:38 am »
The compare tool works well enough but how about extending it to include merge capabilities as well?

This would help us with the scenario where two architects have checked out the same package from source control (one with high contention such as the database model), make changes, then check it back in.

What I would like to see is that the architect's changes who checked in first can be merged in to the other architects local copy before checking in himself.

General Board / View include links on relationship matrix
« on: December 22, 2006, 03:11:30 am »
Hi,

I have set up include relationships between use cases but I cannot see how to view those relationships with the the relationship matrix. It has every option but "include".

Regards,

Myles

General Board / Tracing use case to tables & columns
« on: December 18, 2006, 04:58:15 pm »
Hi,

I would like to make my use case artifacts traceable to tables and table columns. Then I would like to view a traceability matrix of that information.

Does EA support that?

Thanks,

Myles

Thanks. I'll look forward to testing it out.

I have an update on this. The WMF image works fine if I set the stereotype base class to "class". But when I set the base class to "Action" it doesn't display.

Any ideas why this is so? Is it a bug or intended behaviour?

Thanks for clarifying. I'll try EMF firsg & also log the problematic WMF as a bug.

I mean create an instance of the object on a diagram. For some reason my WMF image is not showing. If I use the shape language to draw an image then it shows. As soon as I switch to using a WMF image it dissapears.

General Board / WMF stereotype not showing on diagram

I have created a stereotype with a WMF image file. But when I drop the stereotype on to a diagram it does not draw the WMF image.

Do diagrams support WMF? If not then why have WMF at all for stereotypes?

General Board / Delete more than one object at a time
« on: March 02, 2006, 03:47:44 pm »
I must be missing something obvious but I cannot find out how to delete more than one object at a time from the project view.

I can select multiple objects easily enough but when I right click to select the delete option all the objects get deselected except the one under the mouse.

Please help!

Thanks

General Board / Re: Shape scripting and element names
« on: February 23, 2006, 06:16:11 am »
This is very interesting. I didn't realise shape script had these additional commands.

I wanted to extend the different GUI elements that are available for designing user interfaces. I noticed that there was not a GUI table element availble so posted previously if I could create one with shape script. It soon became apparent that I could not because of the limitations of the scripting language. However, it is perhaps now possible.

Can you take a look at my previous posting and let me know if it is possible using shape scripts undocumented commands to achieve a table like GUI element?

Hi Jeff. I think your suggestion is a very good workaround until such time (are you listening Sparx?  :) ) a standalone XMI to EAP converter is released.

Thanks for your input Jeff!

I do go on don't I? Jeff, to quote you...

Otherwise I'm out of ideas, other than to license everyone up. :>

But this flies in the face of Sparx own vision statement...

Sparx software is intended for use by analysts, designers, architects, developers, testers, project managers and maintenance staff - almost everyone involved in a software development project and in business analysis. It is Sparx Systems' belief that highly priced CASE tools severely limit their usefulness in a team, and ultimately to an organization, by narrowing the effective user base and restricting easy access to the model and the development tool. To this end, Sparx Systems are committed to both maintaining an accessible pricing model and to distributing a 'Read Only' (EA Lite) version of EA for use by those who only need to view modeling information.
