General Board / Diagram Legend - Connectors & Tagged Values
« on: September 12, 2019, 01:59:44 pm »
I have a connector w/ a tagged value named "Dependency Type" which is linked to an enumeration. I want to be able to create a legend that auto-colors based on the enumeration value. How can I do this with the diagram legend. It seems that the tagged values selector requires either a global tagged value or a tagged value that is linked to an element (not a connector).

Thanks for your help!

Thank you. I am not using the older style quick linker definition, but perhaps I should for this specific item.

I've been following the methodology described in http://dthomas-software.co.uk/a-cure-to-the-pain-of-sparx-ea-quicklink-defintions/ to specify stereotyped relationships for MDG technologies. I was wondering if it is possible to create a stereotyped relationship between a connector and an element? For example I would like to link a Business Event element to an InformationFlow connector between two elements. I know this not standard UML convention, but would like to do this anyways. I know that you can link elements and connectors together https://sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/14.0/modeling_tools/conn_to_conn.html but would like to have the convenience of tailoring the quicklink behavior in certain circumstances.

Many thanks!

I am creating a MDG Tech for a custom meta-model. If I create a connector and inherits from a standard UML meta-type (like Association) and add _MeaningBackwards & _MeaningForwards attributes to the metaclass these values will appear in quick link menus. If I create a connector and inherit from a non UML type like an Archimate connector which then in turn extends form a standard UML meta-type (like Association) and add the above attributes to either the parent meta-class or the the archimate stereotype I am unable to get the values assigned to the above attributes to appear in quick link menus.
Am I doing something wrong? Is this expected behavior? Is there a workaround?

I would like to be able to specify the event that the triggers the information flow from one element to another. Do you have any suggestions on how best to model that?

Thank you

General Board / Can an element be linked to a relationship / connector

Is it possible to link an element to a relationship / connector between two elements. See https://go.gliffy.com/go/publish/13076946 for an example.

I have a series of EA automation scripts written in vbscript in XML files that a vendor has provided us. I don't know how to load them into my EA project file. I am using Enterprise Architect 13. I cannot find any information in the online help on this topic.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

General Board / how to dock/group an element with text
« on: November 18, 2016, 11:50:22 am »
I am trying to dock/group an element (like an UML component) with a text box so that the text box is directly above the element and moves with the element if I reposition it. Is there a way to do this?

Thank you!

Thanks. This worked like a charm.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. Given that I am somewhat new to the tool I am not sure if I am doing things correctly.

1. I created a component and dragged to a diagram made it a composite element. (P)

2. I created several components as children in the object browser.

3. I dragged those components onto the diagram and placed them in P.

These components appear to be embedded in (P), but when I used the layout diagram function, the child components were drawn outside of (P). If the child components are placed inside (P), when I move (P) around, the child components move with it.. Anyways, I hope I am doing this right.

Thank you. I'm referring specifically to a UML component. I'd like to create a component diagram that consists of components containing other components. I will look up composite elements.

I apologize in advance for this newbie question, but how does one go about embedding a UML component within another UML component in a diagram?

General Board / modeling enterprise application integration
« on: August 09, 2012, 12:30:19 pm »
Are there any notations that can be used within Enterprise Architect to model integration scenarios using enterprise application integration middleware platforms such as Biztalk.  A popular notation can be found here:  http://www.eaipatterns.com/index.html. Was hoping to find something within Enterprise Architect that could do the trick.

Uml Process / Model relationship between components and classes
« on: August 14, 2012, 10:37:24 am »
What is the recommended way to model a relationship between a component and a class. Let's say there is a component named CompA that consists of three classes Class1, Class2, Class3. How does one go about modeling a scenario in which CompA contains Class1, Class2, and Class3? Is this through the link element feature? If what LinkType should be used.

I apologize for this newbie question. Still getting used to this tool!
