Datamodelling view support for SQL Server, Oracle and Sybase ASE will be available in version 6.5.

What about PostgreSQL? Would it be too difficult to sneak PostgreSQL support in?  :)

Suggestions and Requests / Do not crash when DB connection lost
« on: April 19, 2005, 10:53:34 am »
When the DB connection closes, for instance because of a timeout (I went to lunch), EA crashes and dies.

It would be really nice if it tried to reopen the DB connection before giving up.

General Board / Re: Code generation for Associations
« on: March 23, 2005, 06:48:53 am »
Thanks for the tip, I created a "LinkedAttribute__Body" template and it works. I will post it to the forum later.

*But* it only works for "plain" associations, not with aggregation nor composition. Why is that? Is there any way around it?

Thanks again.

Can EA generate methods for associations, or only attributes?

I forgot to mention: I'm using the IDEF1X notation for these diagrams.

General Board / FKs are not shown in secondary diagram
« on: June 16, 2006, 07:41:52 am »
I like to use different diagrams for different perspectives of a model.

If I:
1) Create a diagram
2) Add 2 classes to this diagram
3) Create an association between these classes
4) Create another (secondary) diagram
5) Drag the 2 classes to this diagram

Then EA automatically shows the association in this second diagram. However, the same thing doesn't happen if the classes are <<table>>s (Data Modeling profile), and the associations are Foreign Keys.

Is this a bug, or have I missed a configuration option somewhere?

Thanks,
Daniel Serodio

General Board / Help! Lost my Project Browser!
« on: November 07, 2005, 01:16:30 pm »
In my previous job, I had a second monitor plugged in to my notebook, so I detached the Project Browser toolbar and put it on the secondary monitor.

Now I don't have a secondary monitor anymore and the Project Browser can't be found! Clicking on the "Project Browser" option in the "View" menu doesn't do anything (it even stays checked), neither does clicking the "Resource Browser" option. How can I bring this toolbar back?

Thanks!

General Board / FK is not shown in diagram
« on: June 07, 2005, 12:22:04 pm »
I'm making a ER diagram, and I want to connect two tables with a Foreign Key.

I created the association with the "Associate" tool, right-clicked on the association and chose "Foreign Keys...".

I selected the desired columns, and when I click "Save", I got an error (a generic DB error dialog).

The FK is shown shown on the "Project View", on the "Operation" compartment of the table, but not on the connector. How can I make it show a label over the connector, like shown in the help?

General Board / Re: Delete object in list when are delated on diag

I agree, the difference between "removing" and "deleting" an element is not clear.

"Remove" shouldn't ask for confirmation, "delete" should.

Also, I think "Remove" should be labeled "Remove from diagram".

Yeah, a graphical indication that it's a linked feature would be nice.

General Board / Re: Show diagram stereotype
« on: April 02, 2005, 08:38:29 am »
Yes, on the Diagram Properties dialog I can set the diagram's stereotype, say, "Physical Data Model". But I can't figure out how to make this stereotype show up in the diagram.

How can I make EA show the diagram stereotype?

I mentioned the Javadoc tag as a least-intrusive way to put this information in the code.

Can we expect this functionality to be implemented?

Nice question, I'd like to hear the answer too.

I case this functionality isn't implemented: I don't know about other languages, but for Java it could be a matter of a @stereotype Javadoc tag.
