Suggestions and Requests / Hyperlinks to element bookmarks in RTF reports
« on: February 17, 2009, 12:11:43 pm »
I assume this is feature is not currently available, but when inserting the name of a connector target element in an RTF report, I would like that to incorporate a hyperlink to the bookmark associated with that element.  This would enable easy navigation of RTF reports that document links between elements.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Linked Documents in Project Browser
« on: April 04, 2008, 02:56:39 pm »
Maybe a separate linked document window, similar to the Notes window, that shows the document when the element is selected, if one is attached.  This would avoid the current need to search for a linked document with each element via the context menu.

I don't like the idea of a separate object, as you can effect this currently by using a convention of creating  a <<linked document>> artifact sub-element where necessary.

It's disappointing build 827 does not contain the originally requested linked document identification feature.  It is extremely powerful being able to associate editable tables, formatted equations, etc. with model elements and generating reports containing this data.  Not being aware of their existence in the model significantly diminishes the usability of this feature.

Suggestions and Requests / Linked Documents in Project Browser
« on: February 12, 2008, 02:34:27 pm »
I know this has been raised elsewhere, but could I re-emphasise the request.  It is great with the Corporate licence to be able to link documents to any element, but they are effectively hidden from view unless you are aware of them.  This is a major complaint of engineers at our workplace who I am trying to convert to EA.

Can we please have some way in the project browser of readily identifying elements with linked documents?!

Suggestions and Requests / Request for unique html report urls
« on: October 28, 2008, 08:46:58 am »
It appears to be that the URL of each element of the html report is relative to its location in the project browser at the time of report generation.  Hence, if an element subsequently moves and another report generated over the top of the first one, the previous URL is now incorrect!

Is there a way to specify a URL to a model element/diagram in an  html report that stays valid (eg. based on the element GUID)?  I want to be able to use external hyperlinks to elements in an html report that will be regularly updated.

It would be useful to identify in the Project Browser if an element has a linked document (corporate edition) and to be able to navigate directly to that document without the clumsy keyboard shortcut or right-mouse-click.  (We use the linked document feature extensively due to the formatting control.)

General Board / Re: Editing of multiple elements?
« on: October 03, 2012, 02:08:00 pm »
Thanks for the tip.  I was hoping for something more generic, however, that would handle Tagged Values, for example.  The Package Browser is otherwise a great feature, but being unable to do bulk edits is disappointing.

Any chance of a feature update?

General Board / Editing of multiple elements?
« on: October 03, 2012, 09:52:02 am »
Sorry if this has been previously posted, but a search for 'edit multiple elements' finds nothing...

How can I easily select multiple elements (eg. in the Package Browser) and set a common property (eg. set the Phase of all selected elements to the same value at once)?

I would be surprised if this was not possible from the EA UI, without having to resort to import/export or automation.

General Board / Re: Connector Tagged Value Visibility?
« on: January 17, 2012, 02:30:48 pm »
Thanks - it was that easy!  Couldn't find it by searching in the help and right-clicking on the note link had no effect   :-[

I assume there is a reason why notes attached to elements work differently from notes attached to connectors (something to do with being able to attach a note to multiple connectors maybe).

General Board / Connector Tagged Value Visibility?

Apart from using scripting, is there any way to have Connector Tagged Value details displayed on a diagram (say, instead of the Name or in a Note attached to the connector)?

I recommend using EA's auto diagram layout features along with automation as a means of performing analysis of networks within EA.  I love graphviz but it is useful for output only.  I currently use automation via Python for network analysis - works well.

You can set a couple of visual properties of elements & links on diagrams (eg. colour, border width) via automation to help with visual analysis.

General Board / Re: Requirements Management
« on: November 23, 2009, 01:31:51 pm »
An approach I have taken is to represent an external requirement document as an Artifact element, then the individual sections in that document as Feature (or Requirement) sub-elements - facilitates good traceability.

To assist with this, I have written a python script to automate the importing of a folder tree of requirement documents (eg. word & pdfs), into EA as artifact elements, each with a tagged value of the file url, while duplicating the structure in the EA Project Browser.  Sort of like doing a code import but with documents.

I prefer using a file url tagged value as it is more visible than adding it the the 'Files' list.

General Board / Updating State Diagram Trigger Names?
« on: August 19, 2009, 09:04:13 am »
I am seeking the quickest way of propagating a trigger name update to all instances of state machine diagram transitions that feature that trigger.  Is there a quicker way than having to manually open then close every transition dialog  :question

Thanks RoyC, that does the trick.  Next time I'll read the Document Options help a bit more thoroughly  :-[

General Board / How to save RTF Report options?
« on: January 13, 2009, 11:53:05 am »
I can't figure out how to save some options associated with RTF report generation.  For example, when I set options such as "Skip root package" of the advanced tab of the Generate RTF Documentation dialog, then save as a Resource Document and close the dialog, the options are cleared when I reopen the Resource Document.

This also seems to apply to settings in the Options tab.
