General Board / Re: BPMN Add In - How To Get Started???

Thanks David,

Not a problem, I found your help to be very considerate.

However, this incident does point to a need for Sparx Systems to update their "Help" file or Web site to provide a correct and complete process for setting up the BPMN Add-In.

Cheers Graeme

I have now worked this out.  ;D

What is needed is the following steps after installing the BPMN software.

1. Open your EA model and select any diagram.
2. Right click the diagram, the "Add-In" option should be available in the drop down list.
3. Select the "BPMN Technology"->"Load" option.

Then continue with the menu reset. eg "Tools"->"Customize..."->"Menu"->"Reset" to add "Add-Ins" to the top level tool bar.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your help, I'm going to issue a bug to Sparx and see if they can shed some light.

Whatever the result - I'll come back to this thread and update it once I've got some more information.

Hi David,

Reset the menu from Tools->Customise->Menu tab->Reset button.

Renaming the MDG Link directory had no effect.

Installation has been into the standard locations.

I'm going to get my local admin guy to do these actions from his account on this machine. See if that sets it up.

Thanks.

I don't have "Add ins" on the main menu.

Thanks David,

I found this,

"Just reset your menu. From the main menu choose Tools/Customize and select the Menu tab. The reset button is right there.

Then import the BPMN (or whatever) MDG technology file as usual. [I think you are OK if you have already imported before you reset the menu, but I did it in this order.]

One note; the "New Diagram" context menu item will not appear until you click the "Load" bar at least once. This gets the add-in working for a particular project, and also creates the BPMN panels in the toolbox. If you do this by accident the "UnLoad" menu bar (which will now replace the "Load" bar) will clean things up nicely. "

Which I have done, but nothing has changed.

After installation of the BPMN I now have on my C: drive a folder C:\Program Files\Sparx Systems\MDG Link\BPMN with the following files in it.

BPMNAddIn.dll
ea.ico
EA_BPMN.chm
mdg.ico
readme.txt

I'm sorry - I'm just not getting it.

Note that the BPMN was installed by the "admin" account - not my user account - could there be a permissions issue?

Thanks.

Graeme

General Board / BPMN Add In - How To Get Started???

Hi Guys,

I have a trial version of EA 6.1 build 789 and I have down loaded the latest BPMN add on and installed it.

However I 'don't have a clue"  :-[ wrt to accessing this add in and activating it from EA.

Could someone please provide some 'step by step' description of how to get the BPMN add in going.

Thanks.

General Board / Re: 3.6/4.0 Side-by-Side Installation
« on: March 24, 2004, 02:09:39 pm »
Hi Guys,

Another possibility.

Install EA 3.60 and EA 4.00 on seperate machines and make the license files readable by everyone.

Create shortcuts to the executables and put the shortcuts on everyones desktops.

Share the drives that the installations are on.

Users can then use the applications via the shortcuts. The binaries run on their own machines, not the servers.

You can control the distribution of the shortcuts so that only those who need the 4.00 version can get it.

You can also connect to the repositories via the ODBC clients, or insist that either group use .eap files to keep them seperate.

A useful side effect of using shortcuts to a common exe is that you only have to update a single installation of the software to update  the whole site.

General Board / Re: Data Transfer from DBMS to EAP Automation
« on: March 08, 2004, 04:14:22 pm »
Hi Bruno,

Currently I do a backup of an EA model from a MySQL Database to a .eap file each morning using the EA Data Transfer mechanism, which, of course, is a manual process.

1. I would like to get a VB Script that I could simply plug in the Connection string of the source model, and the path and filename of the target model. Running the script would effect the transfer of the data.

2. The script would need to be able to handle the case where the source model requires "admin" user access and a password to use Data Transfer.

3. Handy additions would be the ability to do the following.

(a) Iterate over a list of source:target pairs, performing data transfer for each pair.

(b) Rename the newly populated target Model .eap file according to a specified current date format of "ddmmmyy" (eg 09Mar04.eap) and add it too a specified WinZip (.zip archive) file, then delete the .eap file.

(c) Copy an empty project file over the original target model to allow for the next days backup.

Such a script could be scheduled to run at a specific time each time.

Would this be an interesting challenge for you?

Any help you could give would be much appreciated.

Cheers Graeme

General Board / Data Transfer from DBMS to EAP Automation

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have a VB Script (or similar) that can be used to automate the process of Data Transfer from DBMS via ODBC client to a .eap file.

Cheers Graeme.

Security has been enabled on the model, to disable do the following.

Log into the model as an admin user and select "Project"->"Security"->"Enable Security"

At the "Enter Authorisation" dialog enter the value gained from the web page

http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/ea_corp_ed.htm

to enable security.

eg

{C27378C8-6CD8-4efa-92F8-4E0E4F1A8B65}

And select OK.

Follow the prompts.

This process will toggle the security feature, so repeating it will reset the security.

Cheers Graeme. :)

Hi Dirc

Using 3.60.653 build.

Select a class, on the "Properties View" Under class settings, there is a field named "Filename" If you select this field, you will get a browser "..." elipsis on the right.

Note this is not the classes property sheet.

This field allows you to modify the target file for a class.

If you go to "Tools"->"Options"->"Generation"->"C++ Specifications" you will find a dialog for the default Source directory which may also prove useful for your work.

I hope this helps.

Cheers Graeme.

General Board / MySQL Optimisation for Enterprise Architect
« on: December 03, 2003, 10:25:01 pm »
Hi Guys.

Using MySQL version 4.0.15 to support the use of EA in a team based environment.

Using InnoDB tables to support transactions.

Running on a MS 2000 server and using the mysqld_nt_max executable.

Apart from that the setup is a "vanilla" installation.

Does anyone have any suggestions for optimising MySQL server to produce optimal performance for upto 75 concurrent users?

Thanks Graeme R

General Board / Moving classes to another package
« on: September 14, 2003, 06:34:19 pm »
Hi Guys.

Given the tree view of packages, diagrams and class objects that comprises the "Project View". Is there a technique to select more than one class object under a given package, so that the selected objects can be dragged to another package as a group.

It appears that this task of moving an object (such as a class or diagram) to another package can only be done one by one.

If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

Cheers Graeme.

Uml Process / Re: Dodaf and EA

Hi Bruno,

Did you work with FEAF purely through the organisational structure of your EA Project, or was something else required?

Thanks.
