Suggestions and Requests / Self-Association Annoyances
« on: March 10, 2004, 07:49:10 am »
When one creates a self-ssociation in a logical class diagram, the 'graphical behavior' of the association is very poor.

For example:

- association is always directed (with arrow at one end) regardless of setting.
- the association can only reside (be attached) on the right side of the class.
- cannot stretch or customize the self-association line.
- if you set the line-style to 'custom line' and toggle a line-point, and drag the line-point, the graphical behavior is erroneous.

We do a lot of class and data modeling with EA, and particularly in data modeling use many self-associations.  So, this behavior causes us problems.

I just tried the 4.00 Beta and noticed these problems have not been fixed there either.

Is there a plan to fix self-associations in 3.6x and or 4.xx of EA??

Thanks - Brian

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Tabbed MDI Windows for Diagrams
« on: November 10, 2003, 08:29:58 am »
As we have added more EA user's within our firm - this is one of the common complaints.  I am also beginning to manage complex enough projects where multiple open diagrams would be a big help.

Can someone from Sparx please respond with an ETA for this capability, or even of 'no way - can't do it' if that is the case?

General Board / Need help with 'Export to CSV' of Package
« on: November 10, 2003, 04:35:43 pm »
I would really like to export select contents of a package to a CSV file for loading and manipulation in Excel.  The Export to CSV seems like it might help but only appears to make available attributes of first-level items in a package (e.g. classes).

I also wish to export the attributes of the classes within the package and the types of those attribuites as part of the CSV export.

I thought the 'Types' field in the export dialog might help as it is documented to:

"List of types to export (leave blank for all). Sepearet multiple types with , "

but I am not clear what 'types' can go in this field.  Nothing I put in the field seems to effect the generated output??

Can anyone help me with this?

General Board / Re: Diagram Sizes in Reports question...
« on: October 21, 2003, 02:02:25 pm »
I am having the same problem - very frustrating.  When the RTF file containing GIF diagrams is open in some versions of Word (e.g. Word2000) it seems to scale properly.  But, when opened in Word XP/2002 the scaling of the diagrams is not correct and inconsistent.

If I resize manually the drawings in the RTF file so they are scaled properly for me in XP/2002 - when someone opens the RTF file in Word 2000 they are too small!!  >:(

Has anyone made any progress on this problem?...
