We use a constraint type of "Trigger" (Settings | General Types | Constraints). What I would like to see is a specific place in the Use Case for the trigger, and 2 columns in the scenarios: 1 for the actor, and 1 for the system, so that we could clearly document the dialogue.

Try creating a rectangular Use Case in a package, & defining that as the template package (Settings menu). From then on, all new Use Cases will use the rectangle notation.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Test Case - extended functionality

This is test management functionality as found in tools such as TestTracker & Quality Centre. I would be happy to see this added to EA, even at the risk of expanding an already very large product.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: "RealisedBy" RTF option for elements

Not really. The problem is that you have to generate both separately, otherwise the matrix included in the RTF may not be current. It doesn't really matter whether it is in an external file or a linked document (other than the fact that a linked document lives inside the EA repository).
Following the relationship link in a template lets you generate a current matrix in a single step, but the result is not as pretty as the EA matrix.

What we are really looking for is the ability to include an EA matrix directly, perhaps by having some mechanism to link a model document to a saved matrix profile.

Yes, I am aware of the other options, but thanks for reminding me about them. While they are very useful when viewing a model directly, unfortunately none of these allow direct inclusion of the relationships in a larger RTF document. The "export to Excel" comes close, but something along the lines of "save to linked document" would be much nicer.

I have exactly the same issue when trying to generate a relationship matrix as part of an RTF report. Ideally, I would like to be able to simply include one in a template definition, without the kludge of generating one & pasting a screen shot into a linked document.

Failing that, it would be very nice to be able to follow a connector from an element to the set of related elements, regardless of whether the current element is at the source or target end. Right now, we have to build the template which either only works for elements at one end of a connector, or if we want to guarantee to get all the related elements, we have to accept duplicate entries in the report for the "source" element.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Hyperlink: support as first-class relation

Also, if you delete the target diagram, the hyperlink loses its icon & appears to morph into a text box. There is no way (that I have found) to repair the link - you have to delete it & create a new one. Is this a bug or a "feature"? ::)

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Reporting actors with every use case?
« on: August 15, 2008, 03:29:12 am »
We have a similar requirement, and have adopted the solution suggested by a previous post, namely driving the RTF report from the diagram. Assuming that you have a diagram showing the Use Case & its associated actors, the issue is that the actors may come from different packages. Using Diagram Elements should work, but ONLY if you go to the Diagram properties & select "Document each contained element in RTF" in the Diagram tab.

General Board / Information Items conveyed by Flows
« on: June 03, 2015, 04:45:05 am »
The connector context menu makes it easy to find information item(s) conveyed by a flow. Is there a similar way to find out which flows convey a specific item?

Simon: thanks for the pointer - it does indeed work in V12, but for some reason the Horizontal & Vertical Tree styles do not appear in the context menu. Any reason why not?

With the help of Geert's script, I have just written one which changes the style of all connectors for selected elements on a diagram to a user-selectable style. You are welcome to a copy if you like.

General Board / Running a Simulation on a State-Machine model
« on: September 12, 2011, 11:24:08 pm »
Has anyone tried to run a simulation on a state-machine model with states & sub-states? When I tried it, the simulator only executed the major states. I cannot find a way to get into & simulate the sub-states.
