Definitely a needed feature. Numerous members of my team have also made this request.

General Board / Re: Aggregation to self
« on: March 10, 2004, 07:40:37 am »
Hello All,

I did submit this as a bug. I am also getting the unmoveable arrow on the aggregation.

The best example I can think of for self-aggregation is a node in a tree. Each parent node will contain references to its child nodes. (Parent and child nodes are of the same type.)

Jesse

I am having the same behaivor. You may want to submit a bug since that note area seems to work for classes. I used the note area in Rose extensively since I could add documentation without having to open any other windows.

General Board / Re: Making self-aggregation

I found a way to do this:

- Create a self-association
- Open association properties
- Change aggregation field (under multiplicity field) to shared (by reference) or composite (by value)

I still think creating the aggregation directly should work but for now it will do.

Jesse

I was able to export a fairly large model from Rose to EA without too much trouble using XMI 1.0.  It needed a little clean-up work but nothing to big.

During our eval of EA I was doing some research on import/export with Visio. I was unable to get it to work correctly with Visio Professional but have heard that it works with Visio Enterprise Architect (the version that comes with Visual Studio .NET Enterprise Architect 2002)

I was able to find a plug-in that said that it would work with Visio Pro but did not have any luck getting it to install. (Even with the help of some support staff at MS.)

plug-in link:

Thank you. I finally noticed this once I realize everything on the sequence diagrams were objects.

General Board / Deep & Shallow Diagram Copy
« on: September 29, 2003, 10:00:01 am »
I know I have seen this topic floating around and I thought I understood it but in practice I am having a hard time seeing the difference if I paste a diagram using a shallow copy or deep copy. Both instances seem to create exact duplicates of the diagram and create all new elements.

Specifically, I am working on a sequence diagram and, using 'Copy Diagram to Clipboard,' copy a diagram to a different package, using deep or shallow seem to produce identical results.

I am using EA 3.6.644

What am I missing?

Jesse

The "watermark" is removed when you purchase EA and get the registered version.

General Board / Alternate Path in Sequence Diagram

One of the engineers I am working with was wondering if it is possible to create an alternate path on a Sequence Diagram in EA? I personally have not seen this before...anyone have any ideas?

General Board / Sequence Numbering
« on: September 08, 2003, 12:18:54 pm »
Hello All,

Would anyone know how to display message/call numbering on a sequence diagram? I noticed when you create a report from a sequence diagram that a table is generated that numbers the messages/calls. Several members of my team find that having the numbering on the diagram would be useful. (As we recently switched from Rose.)

General Board / Re: Replication and DBMS

Thinking about this a little more I realized that there might be issues regarding security in the replicated model however I found the replication/synchronize feature useful. Does anyone else have any other ideas about work arounds.

If we are using a DBMS is there a way to still make use replication and synchronization? I noticed those two options were grayed once I transfered the model to the DBMS.

General Board / Open word document & sequence numbering
« on: August 19, 2003, 05:59:20 am »
Hello,

Two questions:

Anyone know how to open a word document and automatically navigate to a certain bookmark. The opening is fine using a hyperlink but is there any parameter that can be added to automatically go to a certain position.

Secondly, is there a way to turn on numbering on a sequence diagram.
