Suggestions and Requests / Floating diagram windows

Hello EA,

i see a floating diagram window as more effective.

It could  be very helpfull to see 2 or more diagram in floating windows (floating like the toolbars are).

Is this possible to do in next EA?

Hello,

i see column alias as efective way for model presentation.

There is a problem in my EA.6.1.878 in table-diagram.
Between alias and column name there are 2 'square' characters.

Please, would you like to fix this this problem.

Hello,

this suggestion i adress to the moderator.

context ClassA def:

context ClassB def:
attr clA: ClassA

When i delete the ClassA i would like to see a warning about the usage of ClassA in ClassB.
When accepted, then it will be correct to clear type of clA.

Hello,

this suggestion i adress to the moderator.

This are the Ctrl-T pictures of the same ea-file. In version 6 the order is not the same as in the F9 atribute window and so i get different diagrams of the same file.
This behavior i see by all tables in the file.


Must i go back to ea5 or is there some another way?

The EAP files are MS Access databases.

Thank you Thomas, this tells everything.

I'll suggest a next, may be more safe way:

• Create a blank mdb-database
  
• \Tables\Link, link all tables from eap-project. There is no
  file-extension problem. Access can read mdb-file with eap file-extension.
  
• Build in this new mdb-file you filters, queries, ...
  

This way you access only the data in eap-file, much more, you can build your eap-model-administration mdb-file.
Just change eap data source.
But! Backup eap-file, 2x think about the change step, then do it, of course!

Hello David,

try this:

• "\Tools\Export Reference Data\Model Glossary"
  
  
• Edit XML file in your way, setting for the terms the wished type:
  <Column name="Type" value="Wished Type"/>
  
  
• "\Tools\Import Reference Data"
  

Yes it's a white-man's trick, not clear against EA. You don't find the type in "Term type filter", but it works in reports and list-window.

And that is why i like EA, because of his XML export/import interface. It's good medicine for many troubles.

General Board / Re: EA-6.0 and endless DAO.Fields/DAO.Database pop

Hello Simon,

my situation is:

On workstation:
:local:d:\CVS
some cvs controled packages under project some root-nodes.

On notebook:
The same directory-tree-copy and options.

I haven't find any way how to check-out. Packages are locked for edit. The cvs and project paths are the same on workstation and on notebook (xmi, eap and cvs files).

When "Get Latest" i have seen both the DAO.Fields [3265], [3022].
note to moderator: having floating project view toolbox on right side the processing modal dialogs were outside desktop.

In \Project\Version Control  "Set Version Control Options" i see the "Current user". I have't found a way how to change. I have changed the login-user on notebook win-XP to the same as on workstation. Doesn't work. May be here is my lock-problem.

So i have seen the DAO errors too. I could not check out. I will see on monday in my office, if i find some solution having both work-station and notebook, if i'll see the DAO again.

Hello Neil,

sorry for my shorcut's.
My version of Enterprise architect i wrote with shortcut = EA 6.1.878
That means: version=6.1 build=878.

I followed the help description (under Tools | Options | General):
File Directory - Default location for files.
So i put there my absolute project path.
"D:\wrk\Upd_PIS_BIS\model\eap"

That was my error.

Inspired by your answer i maked a new project a looked on the default paths.
File Directory = "$EAPDIR"
In this case works the 'Launch' well for both relative and absolute paths.

Sincerely i don't understand which files you mean in the help. But using the
option with "$EAPDIR" really works well.

Thank you for the tip: "(under Tools | Options | General)".

Hi KP,

"Launch" doesn't work in my EA 6.1.878 for all fileextensions TXT,PDF,DOC ...  Is there some option in EA to setup this?

I don't think, that it is my windows file-association problem because in explorer, cmd-prompt works it well (DOC,PDF,TXT).

Hello,

this suggestion i adress to the moderator.

Please try Alt-Z on a «enumeration» class without attribute and operation. EA6 hides the element borders in a diagram. I can see the element label, but i find only one way how to drag the element:

.) Locate it in Project view, Ctrl-U, Del, Drag-Drop in the diagram again.

.) Removing «enumeration» stereotype helps too.

Stereotype «table» id o.k.

Uml Process / How much will it take to master UML?

Hi everybody,

I just wonder to know how much will it take to master UML?

I would like using Sparx Enterprise Architect tool for modelling.

Background:

1) I have strong Computer Scince skills (including OOP)

2) In the Company I work in there is a medium project that in my opinion requires using CASE tools. I am the one responsible for deploying CASE tools, managing and developing the project.

What time will it take for me to quickly study the stuff, taking into consideration the fact of presence of real (working) project to train?
