General Board / UI Problem
« on: May 27, 2005, 01:10:04 pm »
I'm running a dual monitor setup and have my main window and diagrams on monitor.  The other monitor I have docked a bunch of the other views into one view. Now, what is happening in the latest version that wasn't in previous is it changes the sizes of my extra views when opening the first time.

My setup on the one screen is

Scenarios        -        Properties  - Project view
Notes               -                         - Resource View
Relationsships -
Rules               -
Constraints      -

What happens is 'maximize' the scenario docked view and makes the rest really small.

I also had to set the User Default setting as well.

Thanks!

General Board / Very first loaded diagram
« on: May 26, 2005, 02:10:04 pm »
I have a diagram that always is loaded whenever I startup my project in EA. I cannot for the life of me figure out how tell EA to not load this diagram up. Any ideas?

Using the latest version with an Oracle backend.

TIA.

UML patterns seems to be the way to go with this. Only sort of draw back is I have to create the pattern in a separate diagram so I don't get to shortcut that.

General Board / paste as link in activity diagram
« on: January 14, 2005, 10:56:24 am »
I have an activity, that encapsulates a bunch of actions, in one diagram that I would like to paste a link into another activity diagram. It seems to work but what happens is in the project view it moves that activity and children underneath the new diagram. Anyhow, I want to be able to reuse an activity hierarchy in more than one diagram and not change where it exists in the project view.

General Board / Font issue in the start screen

The list of projects in the start screen is not resizing properly; the recent models box. I have my system font set to lucida console 12 points.

General Board / link behavior on the diagram
« on: January 14, 2005, 10:35:44 am »
I'm having a real issue as to how the UI works with EA.
I cannot get the link arrows to behave like I need them. First off, any resizing of an action or activity changes link placement. Second, moving them around doesn't always work. It appears to limit a link end to a quadrant of the activity or action and a lot of the time using one end of the link wont move it at all. Thirdly, how do I get a link to go automatically horizontal or perpendicular instead of angled. This should be a one click solution and tidy line angles just doesn't do it.

On actions you can add an embedded element of type pin that can show the class/object and optionally its state. This pin can be an input or output of the action.
The help with EA has pretty good docs on this; look for "action pin"

So, just use this on the last action in your activity?

General Board / Yet another reverse engineering question
« on: January 06, 2005, 11:36:53 am »
I reversed engineered some c# libraries of mine and I have a question. The classes in the diagram contain a protected member that references another class. It draws it with a protected member in the class and a named arrow. To me this looks like a duplication. If its not is this then good practice?

That just lists them in a summary type way. I am also talking about the dialog that pops up when you try to add or edit.

General Board / Requirements dialog

Would it be possible or desirable to anyone else having the requirements tab of the properties dialog to be its own dockable window? I would sure like it.

Requirements and constraints both.

Thanks

General Board / Re: import/export
« on: December 16, 2004, 09:02:16 am »
To get this working:

create a new database schema in oracle,
export the broken model as xmi
load that into an EAP model
datatranser the EAP model to the new oracle model.

data transfer from the broken model in oracle to a new schema in oracle wouldn't work. I also got a few referential integrity errors trying to get the data into the new EAP from the xmi.

anyhow, working again in a team environment with security so the smiles are back.

General Board / import/export

Running the 744 corporate build against oracle in hopes of trying to solve the model security problem.

Reason for export: cannot activate security in the model and have it stay activated or enforced for other clients.

Support says they cannot reproduce the problem so I thought I would export the model and import it into a fresh new schema made from the .sql files.

Test the export. All went fine. Went to import into a new local project to verify the import would work and all I get is dialog where I pick the file and a list box of models to import. I load the file and the listbox stays blank. You cannot import unless you can pick something from the listbox. Can we not export a model from an oracle backend and then import it into a local access model?

I really need some help with this product as I am getting very frustrated in its usability in a team/corporate setup.

TIA

General Board / Multiple monitor support
« on: December 06, 2004, 11:04:30 am »
I would like to ask the powers that be in feature decisions to think about this. I would love to have on one monitor the project view, properties, scenarios, rules, note and the diagrams on another monitor. Then if my  manager's IT budget would support 3 monitors help on the 3rd.

Thanks

I tried this same scenario against build 743 and still no joy.  :-/
