I have followed the steps outlined in the answer. I get stuck by what you mean on step 5 & 6. could you please be more explicit in your instructions. alternatively (better)  can you attach a diagram containing what you mean please.

Many thanks.
Dave.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Include JPG image on diagram?
« on: June 23, 2012, 08:23:47 pm »
In Tools/options/XML specifications there is an option to Export Alternate images - this is what we are using, There is also an option that has Export Diagram Inages & then by image type - but there is no further explaination in the Help as to exactly what this actually does, or what the consequences of using this setting. Could someone please enlighten me ?
Thanks.

Hi, This question has probably been asked before, but I can't find a satisfactory way of sharing alternate images. The sharing of the images seems to be very unsatisfactory. We share our models using SVN and the process seems to be extreamly tortuous for other to be able to see the images. (why are the images just not stored in the xml of the diagram itself? - if just a pasted in image?)
User 1
1) add image to library
2) manually export images reference data
3) check in
for each user that wishes to see the alt images
1) manually refresh images file from svn
2) check out all controlled packages where the new alt images are displayed
3) import images file reference data file
4) go through each diagram where the  alt images are displayed
5) manually select each alt image
end.

Currently using Sparx EA v 8.0.859
Thanks.

Suggestions and Requests / Attribute to attribute traceability
« on: September 28, 2007, 04:14:26 am »
I have a need for a way to trace at the attribute level - e.g. from domain model attribute to logical model attribute to data model attribute (or multiples thereof).
Ditto for being able to trace from a UI element to an attribute on the domain model/logical model so all validation/constraints for that attribute can be contained in a single place.

I have trawled the forums & there seems to be a number of people requesting this type of feature.

Thanks,

Dave.

General Board / Re: managing requirements - using the baseline feature
« on: April 30, 2008, 01:21:08 am »
Hi Guys,
Thanks for your replies, I understand from the documentation that baselining & audit are possible in the corporate edition. I have a number of questions that I hope you may be able to answer.

1) I understand that when the admin takes a baseline, the baseline is stored in the model - as an XMI of the model elements than have been selected - I presume that this has to be exported separately .

2) Thanks for the heads up on RaQuest, but doesn't look like it offers much more than what the corporate edition would allow me to do. Am I wrong ?

3) The Audit facility seems impractical (in the way we have deployed EA - using local repositories on the users local machine ) & synching via XMI with subversion. So the audit log would be logged to the users local .eap file & would have to be manually extracted & centralised by each user - Am I wrong ?

Thanks for your valuable time.

General Board / managing requirements - using the baseline feature
« on: April 25, 2008, 11:30:18 pm »
Hi,
I'm looking at several alternatives in the handling of requirements & the  necessity in managing & tracking change to the requirements as they move forward.

We are currently using EA  - and what a nice tool it is too :) for modeling, but not for requirements management. Has anyone had experience of using the baseline & change reporting feature in the corporate edition? What are the limitations (we currently use Svn & xmi export to share the EA models for concurrent use), what are the pitfalls. How scalable is it ?

For traceability & handling arbitrary requirements it really fits the bill, Just not sure about the above.

Hope someone can help - or point me to a resource that would help.

I've searched the boards, with nothing turning up on this matter.

Thanks,

Dave.

Peter,
Thanks for the post - I'll post a topic in the suggestions. Has anyone got a idea how it may be accpmplished / workaround - any pointers would be helpful

Thanks again,

David, Susanne,
Thanks for your posts, I have checked my version (816) and you can add constraints to attbibutes. However - I'm unsure how this will help me in mapping the selected attribute to another attribute. It seems to me that it would just be additional text with no binding - so could rapidly become wrong if things changed.

Forgive me if I have got the wrong end of the stick on this !

Dave.

susanne, alanH,
I too have a need for a way to trace at the attribute level - e.g. from domain model to logical model to data model and came across your post. Could you please elaborate the way in which you are managing this please ?

Ideally I'l like to be able to have trace relationships at the attribute level but that does not seem possible.

Thanks,
Dave.

General Board / Re: Different appearence of model element in diffe
« on: August 21, 2007, 01:25:32 am »
Peter & Thomas,
Thanks for your replies - almost there - however...
Diagram - properties - elements with the use stereotype icons unchecked shows me a rectangle, with no compartments & no stereotype icon in the top right hand corner of the rectangle - what it does show is the <<entity>> stereotype, the name of the class, the attributes , but not in a compartment (the compartment only shows when I add an operation - which I don't wish to do)

is it possible to do what I want - the help file seems to indicate that because EA has the whole shape defined, then it is not possible ask it to display the icon in the top right corner ?

Thanks
Dave.

General Board / Different appearence of model element in different
« on: August 20, 2007, 06:12:32 am »
Sorry if this is such a basic question but...
I have a requirement to show classes with the analysis stereotype of Entity as circular on one view/diagram , and on another view/diagram I wish to see the same element in a more traditional object rectangle shape, with the Entity stereotype icon in the top right of the rectangle, and also to show any attributes or operations that belong to the class.

Is this possible ?

Thanks.

Dave.
