Suggestions and Requests / Proposal for "LinkedRequirement" code gen templ
« on: September 29, 2009, 03:57:09 pm »
Hi,
as described in http://www.sparxsystems.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1239014388 I need to document realized requirements in the source code for tracing with an external tool. The new "requirement*" field subst macros help, but only for internal requirements, not for external ones.

Proposal would be to introduce a new template "LinkedRequirement" (similar to LinkedClassBase) to be able to list realized external requirement names withing the notes of the class.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Best regards,
Chris

Hi!

Thanks for the information. Though not that fine granular as I'd like it, but with some moving around it does the job.

Hello,
to simplify, eg, requirements managment from within EA it would be very helpful to make bulk changes from within the Element List. E.g. if you have a bunch of requirements that you want to set from "Proposed" to "Approved" this works only one by one right now.

I could imagine something like multiple select items and then a right click on a column would bring up a selection of possible entries which you can select one from. This would only work for elements with drop-down lists in the Property fields, but that would be sufficient I guess.

Best regards,
Chris

We use the http://sourceforge.net/projects/eaprotocol/ Handler to provide url's to even specific diagrams/packages/elements within another ea model. Despite the need to install this on every client is very helpful in my case.

General Board / EA 11 issue: interpreted simulation not working
« on: May 09, 2014, 03:52:39 pm »
Hi *,
i try to get a simple dynamic simulation working with JS code in the behavior of the methods (completely according the help & learning center description).
The execution is properly done in EA10 (incl. local var display and trace output) but in EA11 it seems that only manual simulation is performed, no matter what type of simulation is selected.
Anyone can confirm that this a bug or my fault?

Thanks! Chris.

General Board / Re: EA Validation for Medical SW process
« on: November 09, 2013, 05:05:21 am »
I also developed a model based SW architecture template that makes it simplier to fulfill the norm and we also kept EA outside of the validation process. This is not required, as mentioned, by the norm but might be dependending on your dev process requirement, which is a differnt story. I made the trick that EA was treated similar to a "drawing" tool where not the EA artifact (=the model) was reviewed, but the document created out of EA.
EA was our modeling tool and  created a virtual document template and a package structure based on IEEE 42010 with some extenstions from Rozanski / Woods together with some modeling guidelines to make the documentation of the segregation requirements straight forward, or at least as much as possible  ;). The resulting document was then reviewed and signed according to the process and EA never showed up as a tool which needs to be validated.
In additon we had a tracing process thas was based on the document and not on the tool so we could prove complete hazard tracing withing another (validated) tool chain.

Same as for my colleague before, full explenation would be too much for the thread. Shoot me a PM if your interested in more information

General Board / Re: how to display path and filename of ea file
« on: March 29, 2013, 08:29:07 pm »
I know! That's why I chimed in :-)
I guess the connects string would be a good thing to use, because it also works with "real" databases. Then a new(?) graphical object which get's autofilled needs bo be provided.

Any suggestions on possible solutions here?

Thanks!
Chris

I have exactly the same "strange" craving. If you work with many many models and extract lots of images for presentations I lost more than once track of where the diagram image came.
A little automated "source" field somewhere would not guarantee that I find the model again, but it would definitely be of help.

Just want to make a point FOR the original request here ;-)

Let me know if you need some more help on how to adjust it for your needs.

I wrote a search script that might provide nearly the information that you are asking for. Maybe you can check this out and see whether it lists the information you need. If it is so, then we can further narrow down the search by limiting the classifier type and the name of the relation.

Elements like those are attached to the Classifier via Attributes (e.g. "Dell PowerEdge 6650" has an Attribute "Ram").
The runtime state of the instance of the Classifier in the "HO Servers" can be then set via right-click-> Advanced -> Set Run State (Ctrl-Shift-R).

Hope that helps,

General Board / Re: Link diagrams of different packages
« on: April 26, 2011, 08:25:47 pm »
They store a link to the GUID of the diagram within the element. If you move the diagram the GUID remains the same and the link remains valid as well.

Another feature: drag-n-drop an existing diagram onto an element,  making it a sub-diagram of this element. Then say "Make Composite". A link to the (previously existing) diagram is created, after that you can move the diagram back to its original location (if needed). With this procedure you can easily link to existing diagrams.

General Board / Re: How to get referenced packages via Version Con
« on: May 21, 2010, 10:22:01 pm »
Hi,

this is a problem that, to my knowledge, has been  addressed to Sparx several times. Other programs solve this by stubs (eg. Rhapsody). Currently this is *THE* major issue here for a bigger roll-out.

To my knowledge no other solution exists than do a "Get All Latest" before any check-out (which can be quite time consuming and requires some discipline). I'm currently thinking of developing an AddIn that at least notifies me about possible information loss but I'm not far yet.

@Sparx: PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE!!! It's a major concern especially for larger installations/bigger teams.

General Board / auto "nesting" relation for hierarchical packages?
« on: May 29, 2009, 12:36:30 am »
Hi all,
I have a question regarding the standard behavior a packages that are organized in a hierarchical order in the ProjectBrowser.

Should child packages automatically become "nested" packages wrt the parent package, ie. should this relationship should show up automatically in the Hierarchy View and when you drag these two (parent & child) onto a package diagram?

Currently EA does not implicitly create this relationship but frankly I'd expect it to. Opinions? Bug or correct behavior of EA?

Thanks

General Board / Can Objects/Parts inherit links from Classifiers?
« on: May 28, 2009, 09:22:39 pm »
Hi all,
I have the problem that during structural design of my classes I assign hazard requirements to the classes that implement the mitigation.
The problem I have is that when deploying them in the Process view as parts, I'd need have an indication which parts are actually derived from classes that link to hazard keys.

Is there any way to find out:
- by having a part/object which requirements are actually linked to it via the classifier
- by having a requirement that is linked to a class/component to find out which parts/objects are related to it

???

Thanks for your support!
