General Board / Re: Performance tuning EA <-> Oracle Repository

Also be aware that lts of users complain about performance simply because what they really want is to be left alone to carry on using visio ! They just need slapping :-).

This one is spot on for me..;).. But I seriously need to limit their arguments for continuing with visio...;)

Geert - I found thoose issues, but they was related to the EA Client, and we are using the latest one.

Everything seems to point towards moving the repository closer to the office. It's a highspeed network, but 500km to the repository surely affects performance at least a bit.

General Board / Performance tuning EA <-> Oracle Repository

Hi all.

Is there any tips & tricks of tuning EA (client, network, database) when working against a rdbms repository?
(Except the wan optimizer ofc)

The EA users feels the tool is way too slow due to the repository.

Tuning the EA client itself, network or the database - All tips & tricks are mostly welcome, since I today have no idea where the bottlenecks are.

Running EA 10.0 with an Oracle 11 on the LAN.

Running: Oracle Provider for OLE DB, Connection String:
UC_OEREA_PRD --- DBType=3;Connect=Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle.1;Password=xxxxx;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=UC_OEREA_PRD;Data Source=EADB12;LazyLoad=1;

Thanks

General Board / CSV import/export on attribute level
« on: February 13, 2013, 11:37:36 pm »
Hi.

I have an information model of 1000+ classes and attributes.
That one needs a serious makeover.

Bulk modifications on class/object level (and their corresponding tagged values) are easily done using csv import/export.

Is there a similar way of import/export on attribute-level where a single person in some sort of matrix-style can look over all massive amount of class-attributes (and their tagged values) ?

Please let me know if you find something.... I'm in desperate need of something more than sparx's imagelibrary myself.

Thanks alot. Good inputs.

I will try out some of the approaches above - You guys definately have a point of a clear model. Most of my readers are not "uml compliant", and its a challenge to model this in a clear way.

Uml Process / Alternatives to Information Flow connector?
« on: April 03, 2013, 02:17:17 am »
Hi.

I'm modelling a system containing a massive amount of various integrations, including i.e. FTP and MQ technologies.

I would prefer modelling all FTP interactions using the "Information Flow" connector, and having the actual File information as a Conveyed Item.

However - Using the Information Flow, its not easy to navigate (in diagram, searches, html reports etc) between the elements as well as to/from the actual File object conveyed. (since the File technically is attached as a Xref on the Connector)
I also would prefer to not model the actual FTP communication as a separate object, since using the Connector would be more "pretty". Using Tagged Value on the Information Flow to point out the File is not very user friendly.

What I really would like to do is adding a File object to the Information Flow connector as a "normal" relation.

Or is there any other way to model this in a "proper" way, making the flows easy navigable and searchable?

Uml Process / Re: UML Class model to XSD
« on: February 07, 2013, 09:59:53 pm »
Hi all.

Bumping up this old thread again - I've spent quite some time getting this to work.

I as well need to modify the MDA Transformation to create XSDsimpleType objects when transforming from Class model to XSD model.

I just cant figure out how to set the "type" attribute (string, short, etc) on the XSDsimpleType object in the transformation template?

salayande - How did you solve this?, anyone else?

thanks

After spending a day of transforming back and forwards, please let me know if I got this right when trying to get a classdiagram attribute "maxLength" generated into the xml schema...

Directly generate this from standard class-diagram is not possible, since you cant modify the Code Generation Templates for XML Schema? (At least I couldnt find them in the dropdown list of all other code generation technlogies)

I have to explicit transform the model using MDA transformation, since it seems like a direct XML Schema Generation behind the scenes does not do MDA Generation (At least it doesnt pick up my changes to the templates)

I have to go through modifying the MDA transformation, creating SimpleTypes for all attributes, just to have things like "maxLength", "minLength" etc on the schema?

... What I really want is to modify the actual scripts creating the XSD.. - Is that possible?

Uml Process / UML Class model to XSD
« on: November 29, 2012, 08:14:30 pm »
Hi everyone.

I need to model a corporate information model, preferrably using UML Class modelling, since the knowledge skill of the informations modellers are primary that.
From the UML Class models I want to generate documentations and XSD's, as well as in the next steps generate external webservice documentations based upon that model / schemas.

Question is...
Is it possible to generate complete XSD Schemas from UML Class models including xsd attributes such as "maxLength", "totalDigits", "nillable" and so on ?, or do I have to model "the foundation" using the XML Schema profile?

My information modellers are well familiar with UML Class modelling, and I'm hoping to not be forced to have to teach them everything about XML Schema concepts.

best regards
Andreas

Hello Stoppy,

Dit you get this to work already? I am having the same problem. When I have the "Run only when user is logged on" flag turned on in the Windows (2008) scheduler everything works fine. When I turn this off the application seem to get stuck. No output, nothing and the task doesn't end either.

MBrandt

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the reply.

It is definately not item number 2.

I am not a techie, but if you could supply some reference documents/sites or further details for item 1 this would be appreciated.

Regards,

Stoppy

Not sure I can help, but maybe point out in right direction.

Have the exact same problem, and me and my colleague spent weeks in this issue. Everything from modifying user rights, to COM launching rights, etc, etc.

First it just "stopped" was because a user not logged in couldnt find the license file properly. It just stopped, since EA expects user inputs in prompting location of the license file.
Now it just stops of some other reason, and I'm pretty sure it requires some other user input, that I dont understand.

We simply gave this up by now, and living with the fact that the automation server needs a logged in user, until someone else figures it out...;-)

So - My best guess is that EA in the automation requires some user input, since I know for sure that for my case it results in "just stopping"...

If you guys finds it ... please let me know..

Yes, I have a user.
And with the same user the scripts goes excellent using the command-prompt, but not as a Scheduled Task (Wich is configured to use the same user).

I also tried another special user that I set all special OS permissions I could find ("act as part of operating system", "run as batch") etc... all thoose special permissions not even an Administrator has...

Still no success...

Hi.

I know there are several posts with similar topic, and I've spent weeks reading them, and try to get this to work.

I try to automate the generation of the html-report (using the java-api, since thats the language I can).

I kick it off using a bat-file, and that works excellent when going through the command prompt. However - Scheduling this as a Window Task (using same administrative user on Window Server 2012), I get error messages that very much seems to relate to COM-permissions that is described in several other posts.

I just cant figure out where on Windows Server 2012 I can configure this permission (if it is a COM-permissions issue)?

Anyone know, or can hint me in right direction?

thanks
/Andreas
