Suggestions and Requests / Option to use MS Word as default document editor
« on: November 05, 2008, 01:53:10 am »
Any way of creating an option to use word as the default document editor.  This would go along way in bridging the gap between the existing RTF editors and some of the richer features of word when creating master documents.

Suggestions and Requests / Make RTF Right-Click menu items a toolbar menu

It really is painful to have to 'right click' everytime it is necessary to use this particular functionality, like table formating, inserts, etc.

Fredrik,

Another option I am tinkering with is creating a UML profile that has tagged values of things like 'story points' and 'start date' and 'end date'.  The profile combined with a custom add-in that knows how to process stories and iterations would do the trick of creating burn down charts.

This is exactly what TimeArchitect is doing. Licenses are cheaper than investing several hours of doityourself ;)

I would beg the differ with regards to this add-in doing exactly what is requested.  It is designed around a typical project management tool with Ghant charts and the like.  It is not an 'Agile' tool per se which would display things like burn down and velocity.  Effort is not necessarily quantified a value of hours and days.

I'm having issues actually creating the profile, but that is another story; no pun intended.  I'll keep you updated on my progress.

Fredrik,

I have been trying to do the same thing, but I don't think EA out of the box supports this usage model in an agreeable way.  The best that I have been able to do is use features (or usecases) with a 'Story' sterotype, coupled with a 'Metric' entry for story points, coupled with resources as you describe.  To represent iterations, I was thinking of either using a digram that represents a specific iteration and attaching a 'planning' resource in order to target the start and end dates.

It's all very hoaky and I think it begs for a custom add in.......hmmmm...

General Board / Master document header and footers
« on: November 19, 2008, 03:37:41 am »
Is there anyway to confirm what controls the headers and footers for a master document?  Does the master document template dictate the overall document headers and footers or is it the template of the first virtual document linked in?  Possible feature to keep the headers and footers for each virtual document as is.  This would support the scenerio where the title page has no headers or footers, a revision history with some different footer than the actual content.

General Board / RTF dynamic data field population
« on: November 05, 2008, 01:48:58 am »
Is it possible to dynamically populate a data field upon document generation?  It looks to be some sort of merge field, but I don't see the point of the feature if there is no way to set it dynamically, are to change a document property without having to edit the document anytime.  Anyone have a clue?

General Board / Re: RTF Documentation - Package Element vs Element
« on: November 05, 2008, 01:05:17 am »
Oliver,

I don't mean to sound unappreciative of your response, but it was about as valuable as the whitepaper you directed me to; the one that is also referenced in the help documentation.  The documentation regarding the creation of RTF's is very weak.  It is not obvious at what I will get unless I spend hours generating samples.  Even though the whitepaper is of use for a number of topics, I was hoping that something more existed to further explain EXACTLY what each element does when one clickes the check box.

General Board / RTF Documentation - Package Element vs Elements
« on: November 04, 2008, 05:44:23 am »
Is there any documentation about the difference between a 'Package Element' and an 'Element' when generating RTF Documentation?    For that matter, is there any documentation regarding the elements you can pull into a template?  Some of them can obviously be mapped to a tab on the properties pane or other assorted field, but, for example, what does it mean to choose a 'model document'?  Is this just another 'element' or 'package element'?
