General Board / Re: ChatGPT enabled models?
« on: August 20, 2025, 09:01:18 am »
Hi All,
Indeed LLM support has been in EA since version 17.1 and it recently got a boost in build 1713.

Configuration:
  • To configure it you need to be in a model with security enabled.
  • After you have logged in to the model go to Settings -> Options -> Collaboration
  • In build 1713 you will see a "ChatGPT Configuration" area, this will be expanded to other LLMs in coming builds.
  • Enter in the required details: Service Address, API Key, Model, Group.
  • And you will be up and running.

Once enabled you can then have chats and discussions with the LLM, we have a video that demos this off:
https://youtu.be/vPcu3Sui2ZY

The main features are:
  • Chats are good for one off questions with no conversation memory - good for a quick question
  • Discussions have full conversation memory so you can have a discussion with the LLM
  • A workbench to move the result of the LLM into a workable area (Create elements, push text to notes, create glossary items and etc)
  • #diagram# and #element# keywords to send the LLM the currently active diagram or currently selected element so you can ask specific questions of the LLM

*A few main caveats:
- We are actively working on this feature, so dialogs and functionality will change.
- The LLM configuration is a model level config meaning a) you will need to configure it for each model you want to work on and b) if you share this model with others they will also be able to make queries to your LLM API.

General Board / Re: Is EA not responding to support requests anymore?
« on: November 23, 2024, 12:33:47 am »
Hi All,
Thanks for the update - we will look into what could be happening with the support response emails. We will hopefully have it resolved by early next week.

Hi All,
After reviewing the inclusion criteria for the 2020 Magic Quadrant we found that the Performance and Tools Market Focus sections are straightforward and clearly met by Sparx Systems. However, the section entitled Market Momentum, which requires Sparx to divulge customer information is in violation of both our ethical and our privacy standards. While we have clearly met the underlying condition of entry, we will not violate our customer's right to privacy or act contrary to our own standards. Anonymous statistics concerning license sales were insufficient for the Gartner Research team, so we unfortunately had to bow out of this year's MQ.

Thank you all for your continued support.

I would disagree that there is a perceived lack of enterprise features in EA.

From my personal perspective the Gartner MQ process is 100% the views, perspectives and opinions of the Gartner analyst team, and even then, the rankings are only “in relation to each other”.

To get into the MQ report the evaluated tools must include the core enterprise architecture capabilities, if the tool fails or is substandard in any of them, then they are not considered for the report.

In the Sparx Systems specific section of the report, Gartner suggests that Enterprise Architect adequately covers these core capabilities.

Also Gartner suggests as a result of the market for EA tools maturing, these core capabilities no longer enable clear differentiation between products.

So the Analysts came up with Critical Capabilities which they recommend EA practitioners pick 'several' (not all) to evaluate when selecting an EA tool according to their needs including: Modeling, Business analysis and design, Presentation, Usability and Monitoring.

Where vendors are positioned in the Magic Quadrant is solely based on the weighting the Gartner Analysts choose to give to each of the critical capabilities. If I remember correctly, if you are a Gartner research client you can actually log into the research portal and assign your own weightings to the critical capabilities – completely changing the position of the vendors in it to suit your own needs.

Finally if you would like to provide your own reviews on Enterprise Architect and view the reviews of others, Gartner have a Peer Insights page. Currently we are rated higher than 4 other vendors that are positioned higher and righter than us in the MQ and we have the second most reviews.
https://www.gartner.com/reviews/market/enterprise-architecture-tools/v2

This year, like previous years, we will be exhibiting at the Gartner Enterprise Architecture & Technology Innovation Summit as a Silver sponsor (not Platinum ;-) in London and Orlando. So if you are in the area or in attendance please feel free to drop by and say hi.

Bugs and Issues / Re: Ribbon Sets - NO Help
« on: October 08, 2018, 04:17:06 pm »
Hi Paolo,
In v14 under the Start Ribbon -> View -> Workspace -> My Workspaces you will see a "My Ribbon Sets" tab.

Once a ribbon set has been defined there you can turn them off and on via the right hand side Perspectives menu.

The help for it can be found here:
http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/14.0/user_interface/ribbon_menus.html

Best Regards

There is always the help file page on Keyboard Shortcuts for any that escape the memory:

« on: March 07, 2018, 09:08:47 pm »
Hi Guys,
The release notes will be published in HTML format once EA 14 comes out of beta. There is always the chance of features being added or removed in the beta period - so nothing is set in stone at this stage.

When 14 is official, the release notes will be available from the following URL, however we will repost this link in the Latest News announcement at the time too.
http://www.sparxsystems.com/products/ea/history.html

In the mean time, as Arshad pointed out they are in the Readme.txt file in the EA folder which can be accessed from with-in EA from the Start Ribbon | Help drop down | Read me...

General Board / Re: Using EA with Git
« on: January 24, 2018, 09:20:13 am »
As an alternate option I have heard of some users installing a free plug-in for Git to make it respond to Microsoft SCC calls, they have then setup their version control in EA to Git using SCC. A quick Google search returns a few different options for plug-ins for Git.

Hi Uffe,
You are correct - we have labeled it as an offer, however for the foreseeable future we will continue to offer and support the Pro Cloud Server Express.
The general rule of thumb is, if you have 5 or more  EACORP or above licenses that are in maintenance we will supply a Pro Cloud Server Express key to you that matches the EA maintenance expire date. If you renew sooner (say to co-term your licenses) then you are eligible to apply for a new PCS-Express license to match the new expiry.

To request a new PCS-Express license (or renew an existing one) you can use the following form:
http://sparxsystems.com/products/procloudserver/pcs-express.html#licenseoffer

Hope this helps!

Another advantage to using the Pro Cloud Server and WebEA is it removes the need to generate the HTML at all. The web view is updated instantly when the model is.

General Board / Re: Should our organisation migrate to EA12.1 or EA13?
« on: October 20, 2016, 04:01:04 pm »
Sparx Systems generally doesn't send an email for the build releases, generally only major releases (like the recent release of v13).
In other news build 1307 has just been released ;-)

Further to Marc's Comment,
You can also select and element and hit the 'L' key, this will highlight all incoming and out going connectors for a particular element (in red and green).

Hey Tehila1
We keep a history of the last build of each major version of EA available for download back to v2.50.
(obviously v12 will be part of this list now that we are at v12.1)

You can find it in the registered users download section at the bottom of this page:
