Bugs and Issues / Re: Problems with XMI import from Umbrello
« on: April 05, 2018, 07:38:09 pm »
This was not a duplicate posting.

They are two different problems and concern unrelated models, produced by different people in different projects several years apart. Umbrello is able to import the XMI files and to reproduce the features that were in the models they originate from, including associations, aggregations etc., while EA is not. The problem does not appear to be intrinsically in the XMI files, but in the way EA handles them.

Best regards,

Bugs and Issues / Problems with XMI import from Umbrello

Hi,

EA 13.5 (via Crossover 17.1 on a Mac) appears to import some models saved in XMI by Umbrello. The models were originally produced by an old version of Rational Rose; Umbrello Version 2.14.3 (using KDE Development Platform 4.14.3) imports the original .mdl files produced by Rose correctly, i.e. it reproduces all the classes and their relationships, and all the class diagrams included in the original Rose models. From Umbrello I save the models as XMI, which I then import into EA, but the imported models appear incomplete: class diagrams are missing, inheritance between classes is preserved, but other relationships present in the original models (aggregations, associations etc.) have disappeared.

As I suspected that this could be a problem with XMI saving in Umbrello, I opened the same XMI files in Umbrello, where I retrieved all the relationships that were missing when I opened them in EA.

Could anybody suggest me how to solve this problem? BTW, I do not need Umbrello at all, I only want to find a way to import the orignal Rational Rose models (.mdl) into EA.

Thank you in advance for any help,

Maria Grazia

Hi,

I am trying to import some old Rational Rose models, saved as XMI, but I encounter various problems. I use EA 13.5 on a Mac via Crossover version 17.1.

One of the models was saved into XMI by my post-doc using an old Rational Rose version; when I import the XMI into EA, I get the following error message several times, then the import reaches the end apparently successfully:

"The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key or relationship. Change the data in the field or fields that contain duplicate data, remove the index, or redefine the index to permit duplicate entries and try again."

I do not understand what this error message means.

In the log file of the import I also found several "Error: Unknown Transition Source or Target", which follow "Add message", e.g.

Add message
Error: Unknown Transition Source or Target
Add message
Add message
Error: Unknown Transition Source or Target

The imported model is missing some features: all aggregation relationships have disappeared, and most associations are missing.

This attempt to recover these old Rational Rose models is motivated by the creation of a historical archive of a CERN scientific software project, which commemorates the 20th anniversary since its first release this year. I would be very grateful to anybody who could help importing these old models into EA.

Thanks in advance,
Maria Grazia

Thank you for your prompt reply. Leaving the 'GDI Plus Metafiles' option unticked let me save the image of the diagram to a .emf file. With 'GDI Plus Metafiles' on the .emf file has zero size, i.e. it is not a problem of the application used to view it, but of how it is produced.

The behaviour looks quite erratic over versions 9.x-12.x:

- with EA 9.3 and GDI+ Metafiles on in Options > Appearance, the .emf file is produced by Diagram > Save image to file with size >0;

- with EA 10.0 and 11.1 and GDI+ Metafiles on in Options > Appearance, the .emf file is produced with size >0, but the 'GDI Plus Metafiles' option appears unticked after producing the image, even if it was ticked before saving the diagram image, i.e. this is a symptom of a side effect of  Diagram > Save image to file;

- with EA 12.1 and GDI+ Metafiles on in Options > Appearance, the .emf file is produced with size =0, and the option remains ticked after saving the diagram image to file;

- with EA 12.1 and GDI+ Metafiles off in Options > Appearance, the .emf file is produced with size >0.

There is still a problem with the .emf file, when it is produced: when it is imported into OpenOffice, it looks fine, while when it is imported into MS PowerPoint, some parts of the diagram are messed up. An example of a PowerPoint slide is in https://www.ge.infn.it/geant4/temp/ea/APCexercise.pdf, where the top picture is the result of importing the .emf file and the bottom one of importing the .png file of the same diagram. Since OpenOffice seems to be able to import the .emf file correctly, I guess that the problem is not (or not only) with EA.

I am using EA on a Mac with Mac OS 10.11.3 and Crossover 15.0.1.

Bugs and Issues / Empty .emf file generated by Diagram > Save image to file
« on: February 12, 2016, 01:56:36 am »
Diagram > Save image to file generates an empty .emf file. Other file formats (.bmp, .png, .wmf) are generated correctly.

In previous EA versions saving diagrams to .emf files worked fine. Am I doing anything wrong, or is it a bug in EA?

The problem is observed with EA 12.1.1227, Ultimate Edition (Academic license), used via Crossover 15.0.1.
