Thanks.

There is something going on that I don't understand, because when I move things up and down, some related things move and some don't. In fact, it is unusable.

I am certainly not a follower of graphical programming. I just wanted to document some sequences, where a few different actors are interacting.

General Board / Associating Fragments with messages and nested fragments

Sorry if this question is very stupid, but I'm only an occasional user of EA and not an expert on UML either.

In a sequence diagram, there doesn't seem to be any connection between Fragments and things inside the fragments (messages or other fragments).

If I add a new message, or move an existing message, other items are moved down, but not the fragments. This means that I am continually adjusting the position of the fragments by hand.

How do I associate fragments with the stuff inside them (presumably building up a hierarchy).

Thanks in advance, Phil

General Board / Re: High level system diagram

Thanks for the answers.

I have made a diagram which is good enough as a Deployment diagram. I had previously not found the "more tools..." option in the toolbox, so I couldn't figure out how to add actors to a diagram which was not a use-case diagram.

The Example Model is a good source of ideas which I will refer to in future.

SysML and ArchiMate both look interesting. Our team has a license for Enterprise Architect, so I wanted to use this tool if possible.

General Board / High level system diagram
« on: September 24, 2016, 06:53:47 am »
I would like to make a high level and fairly informal system diagram.

I want to include:
- software components
- hardware components
- maybe mechanical systems
- files
- possibly a database
- actors

I don't really care if it a formally correct UML diagram.

Can I make a diagram like this using Enterprise Architect, and if so, what kind of diagram would it be?

Thanks in advance
Phil
