General Board / 1704 Error

Hi everybody,

We shared a Sparx EA repository within a group to work simultaneously on the model and put their discussions there. People are working within Sparx Lite and have access to the read-only version of the file. The file is shared on a server folder. But for some of the users, when they want to put their discussions, they got the 1704 error with this content:
Enterprise Architect (Build: 1704 - 64 bit)

Sparx Systems Database API [0x00001086]

SQL API Update FAILED with error: attempt to write a readonly database

Context: Insert into t_document (DocDate, IsActive, Version, Author, DocType, StrContent, ElementType, ElementID, Style, Notes, DocName, DocID) values (:bv_docdate,:bv_isactive,:bv_version,:bv_author,:bv_doctype,:bv_strcontent,:bv_elementtype,:bv_elementid,:bv_style,:bv_notes,:bv_docname,:bv_docid)


Does any body have the same experience? Have any idea how to fix it?

General Board / Importing Sparx Models (Repositories) into Prolaborate

Hello,

We recently adopted Prolaborate for our organization, and are in the journey of integrating Sparx and Prolaborate repositories. I have a question about using our existing Sparx repositories in Prolaborate.

When we create repositories in Prolaborate, we should copy and paste available packages and diagrams or created new ones within the created repository in Sparx.

My question is: how can I create a repository in Prolaborate that includes everything from Sparx without needing to copy and paste diagrams between models?

Can I put a model on a server (same place as Prolaborate) and then include its name where adding a repository? or there are others considerations.

I appreciate your help with this matter.

General Board / Compartment Visibility for a Storage Device in Zachman

Hi,

I'm modelling in Zachman perspective, within Data Distribution Architecture. Want to show the compartments of a storage device, including its attributes and Notes. But even with setting its compartment visibility to be visible for all those checkboxes, and also set the diagram properties to show compartments, again I can't see them on the element. Does any body has the same experience before? Comments/ Ideas?

We don't have any special DBMS for Sparx now. We're saving them on a file-based repository within our shared or local places.

I tried to delete them in chunks, but even with this approach, Sparx is crushed and tried to work almost 50 minutes without any result.

Hi,

I imported several process maps from a BPMN modeling tool into Sparx repository, where I'm working mainly within ArchiMate notation. Now, it seems that my model is so huge to be processes timely, so I decided to delete those processes from my model, but it took almost 1 hour and Sparx couldn't do that. It seems that Sparx has crushed. What's the issue? and does any body know any solution to that?

Hi every one,

I'm trying to insert all related elements of a process's stages in one view and at the same time. But whenever I select a group of activities to insert their related elements and right click on them, there is no option for inserting related elements, like what we have for individual ones. What should I do? I need those related object for my impact analysis purposes.

General Board / Export tagged valued in CSV file

Hi,
I set duplicate tag values for elements in a model. Consider a tag named “sector”, has these values S1, S2, S3 for the same element. There are also other tags with duplicate value. But when I export the model in a CSV file, I can only see one of those values in each tag’s columns. Does anybody has any idea that I can show them as a set of string in a cell showing all the values considered for each element?

Hi,

I have a question related to legends and tagged values. I defined a list of tagged values for the "Sectors" category and added different values to a capability, for example, Sector 1 & Sector 2 as their tagged values. When I add a legend to show these two tagged values, it just shows one of them (For example, just the colour defined for Sector 1). Can anybody help with this issue?

General Board / Presenting the same capability map to different stakeholders

Hi folks,

I made a BA model in ArchiMate, and we have a capability map with 3 layers. I have some questions regarding this map:
1. Is it possible while we have all the map in a diagram, filter by its layers, but instead of hiding/fading other layers, we see them as a pull-down list or like a dashboard with different filters, which by clicking on them we can see the desired layer, and don't see the others?
2. Do we have something like Pivot tables to generate customized views based on different dimensions? For example, some capabilities are active for stakeholders in various departments, regions, lines of business, etc. How can I combine these filters together and have customized views or viewpoints for different groups of stakeholders? I don't what they can see empty or faded spaces shown after filtering or layering. I want they can see an entirely new view.

I'm going to present a Business Capability map to different stakeholders, and I want to filter some of the elements in the map for some of these groups. I wanted to know if I can do that with the "Model Views" or not? How can I do that?

Thanks a lot Geert. It helped me very much. And how can we distinguish that which modelling language is used in each of these layers? and also what about high-level models like what we have for biz capabilities and their connection with applications?
I'm really struggling how to connect capabilities and apps together to show them in a way that apps are embodied in a capability, by clicking on the App icon on the capability I can go through its diagram. Sorry if my questions seem idiot I'm so new to the EA modelling.
Also I have another question, if we set a "Realization Stereotype" to a connector for connecting a UML-based component to an ArchiMate-based capability, would it be a problem?

Thank you so much guys for your responses. Here I have a question from my manager regarding choosing another language besides UML, which we used for modelling App portfolio and Biz capabilities. And I should provide them a proposal about that to address which one is more suitable?? BIZBOK, ArchiMate, or even TOGAF or BABOK. Or as an alternative, a combination of them. With considering this limit that we're going to use Erwin for our data modelling. Do you have any suggestion to provide a solution here? @Geert can you please provide me with more info about how you used the combination of languages in your project(s)?

General Board / ERWIN and Sparx Integration

Hi,

We have an enterprise architecture modelling project. We are going to use Erwin for our data-side modelling, and sparx systems for the other layers. We are in the phase of deciding if it's better to use UML for all the layers , or we go with ArchiMate, and use UML where more details required. It seems that these two tools will be compatible through UML. But I'm not sure, does it mean that we can't use other languages, or as some of them like ArchiMate is compatible with UML, it's ok to have them in our model???
what would be potential challenges in integrating Sparx and Erwin together?
