Wondering if anyone has any ideas, suggested add-ons, script resources etc that could help with importing https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/common-data-model/ entity definitions from https://microsoft.github.io/CDM/SchemaViz.html into elements in Sparx EA 15.2.

I realise this concerns importing json schemas, not a capability Sparx EA has at present but thought I'd ask in case any gurus have some thoughts on a way forward.

regards,

Russell

Thanks Eve. That's helpful.

Hi.

Can anyone please confirm the version of Spider Monkey used by Sparx 15.2 and 16.0 as its JavaScript engine?

I recall seeing from searching in these forums that version 1.8 is used but would appreciate if anyone can confirm the actual versions.

cheers,

Russell

Hi Ben,

Thanks for your comment and the video link!

Your approach may certainly do the trick. I'll report back how it goes.

Great video BTW.

Hi Geert,

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I didn't explain it very well :)

Yes you're right that was a tagged value.

For the sake of example, let's say we have 2 properties of an element that we want to combine in an RTF report as a clickable hyperlink in the outputted document:

We'll use Element.Name and Element.Alias an enter the following data into those fields:

Element.Name = "Google"
Element.Alias = "https://google.com"

Question, how to combine both of those fields in the rtf template so that the printed output will look and behave like a standard hyperlink in the document?

Sparx provides for adding a hyperlink to a rtf template via the Insert | Hyperlink menu item. That displays a two field dialog-box (Link Text, Link Code (or URL)).

That seems the only mechanism for adding a hyperlink and it doesn't support entering anything from a model data field.

So basic question, how does one present model data via a hyperlink structure in an rtf template?

Russell

General Board / Inserting a hyplerlink in an rtf auto-generated document
« on: November 12, 2018, 10:12:33 am »
Hi,

I'm hoping someone may have experience with this issue and a way forward.

When working with rtf document templates a hyperlink can be added via [Publish | Insert | Hypelink] which causes a dialog to be displayed seeking two values:
1. Link Text
2. Link Code (or URL)

In my document I'm creating a list of policy documents, represented in the model by ArchiMate_Contract elements.

I would like to have each element name displayed in the list to be a hyperlink using the following field values:

1. {Element.Name}
2. {Element.valueOf(Dept.EA::Hyperlink1)}

Can someone comment on whether this is possible and if so, how it is done when editing an rtf template?

regards,

Russell

General Board / Sharing notes entered into Journal with other model users

Hi,

Does anyone now if it is possible to share/allow access to notes saved in the "Journal" with other model users in a non-pro cloud server/web ea environment?

Cheers,

Russell

General Board / Kanban: Linking Features to User Stories
« on: February 26, 2018, 04:03:06 pm »
Hi,

I've read through Kanban Features document (http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/resources/user-guides/project-management/kanban-features.pdf) produced by Sparx.

I have not been able to figure out the recommended way to link Features to User Stories as it does not seem to be covered in the document. I know I could link a User Story as dependant on a Feature but I am wondering if the Kanban MDGTechnology provided any specific smarts relating to such linkages.

If anyone has some pointers I'd be happy to learn.

Cheers,

Russell

Thanks Sunshine. I had a look at the NZ EA work - it's quite impressive especially compared to the vacuum in the same sphere here in Oz. I'll definitely have a look at the link you provided.

Russell

I'm seeking a complete/partial UML profile for the Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework (FEAF) V 2 for import into Sparx Enterprise Architect V 13.5. Better yet would be a MDG Technology package but I expect that may be beyond the realms of possibility.

Sparx Systems sell a TOGAF 9.1 MDG Technology package which includes FEAF V 1 (circa 2009) but that version of FEAF is deprecated and was always fairly anaemic, focusing largely on cross-organisation standards for alignment and interoperability at the expense of intra-organisation applicability.

The Consolidated Reference Model that comprise FEAF V2 has I think greater potential for application within an enterprise and is my main motivator for seeing if anyone has come across a profile or MDG.

Any pointers that the community may be able to provide would be much appreciated. :)

Hi Simon,

Thanks for replying. I have a feeling that the TOGAF MDG supports FEAF 1.0 which was pretty useless. V 2.0 is quite an improvement and is more what I was looking for info on.

I can work from the FEAF spec and bring in what I think I need and adjust it over time but though if there was a profile floating around out there it may reduce some of the work involved.

Russell

Hello,

Has anyone come across a UML profile(s) for the Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework (FEAF) Version 2 reference models? (link: https://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/offices/e-gov/fea)

cheers,

Russell
