General Board / Possible to generate excel report instead of rtf?
« on: June 27, 2014, 07:21:49 pm »
Hi,
One of the sub-menus of the pop-up menu "Documentation" is "Rich Text Format (rtf) Report".
I wonder whether it is possible to generate into excel format instead.

I would like to generate documentation of database tables directly into excel.

Or is there a proper way to achieve what i want?

thanks.

hi peter,

that works too!

Wow, EA is real flexible. Wonder whether it is by design or something else  ;)

Is there a hotkey / shortcut key to navigate to the next "page"? The "page" i refers to can be diagram, source code window, etc.

If there is, may i know what it is?

Thanks.

General Board / Re: No definition when import sql server stored pr
« on: September 06, 2006, 08:15:34 pm »
It seems that those sp that do not have definitions are because of error during importing - EA was not able to recognise the user-defined data type used in the sp.

I discovered this when i used a the version 6.1 build 792 to import sp and it complained of error - unrecognized symbol. AFter the importing process, i verified that these sp do not have definitions.

Is this a bug or limitation of EA?

General Board / No definition when import sql server stored proc
« on: August 31, 2006, 08:34:08 pm »
I import db schema of sql server stored proc.
Then generate rtf documentation.
Some stored proc has definition, notes and columns while some (mostly) do not.

Is there some setting or due to the way the stored proc was created?

(i tried the ea6.5 beta, same thing happened to stored proc and view)

Sql server 2000. Db is set to 6.5 compatibility.
EA is v6.1

any advise?

General Board / Combing models from others into 1
« on: May 16, 2006, 10:30:06 pm »
hi,

Perhaps this has been covered before, but i could not find anything by searching for "combine".

How to combine the work done by other teammates into a consolidated model?

Perhaps this may not be the right way to do.

Perhaps the right way is to "check out" the required portion by the assigned teammate to work on. After that, "check in" once it is done.

In a nutshell, how to use EA in a team environment where the model can be used by different members? Can this be done? How?

Thanks for any pointers.

General Board / How to update reverse engineered class diagram?
« on: May 10, 2006, 04:21:18 am »
hi,
Perhaps this sound strange but i can't figure out how to do it.

I have already reverse engineered the class diagrams of a my vb.net solution. In the solution, i have different projects. In a particular project, i have a class containing enumerations and constants.

After getting the diagrams, i changed the names of the vb files, enumerations and constants.
I then reverse engineer again with the option "synchronize". The <<enumeration>> still shows the old names. If i choose "overwrite" existing classes, i get duplicate diagrams.

Did i miss anything?

Thanks.

General Board / Do i have to "patch"
« on: March 07, 2006, 06:33:29 am »
This may sound obvious to u guys, but is baffling to me.
Do i have to apply the EA patch after using the full setup of 6.1 build 788?

The patch and the full setup are both released on the same day.
So i thought maybe don't need the patch.

But then the website said "download the full version of EA 6.1 and install it before using the patch".
So i thought maybe need to install the patch.

Then, the instructions for applying the patch stated on the website is different from that in the patch's readme.txt file. The website says only to copy the EA.exe while the readme.txt says copy all the files in the patch zip file.

So, do i need to apply the patch??? If so, how???

General Board / Problem with Reverse engineer VB modules
« on: August 28, 2002, 04:27:46 am »
hi,

Any idea why module files (.bas) are not reverse engineered?
I right-click on Logical Model, select Code Engineering -> import source directory.
All the forms (.frm) are reverse engineered, but not module files.
I am using EA3.1 build 501.

Hi Tadd,

Thanks for that pointer on printing issues and glossary. I have missed that.

But I don't see how to print html version of the glossary. From the glossary dialog, clicking on the Report button only produces RTF file. How did u get html file?

Since we cannot print Todo, looks like Todos have to become Issues if we want to generate report, without writing automation.

Thanks for the suggestion. But using the automation interface is out of reach for me in the forseeable future.
