Wow! I didn't think I was going to start such a heated debate over so many areas. All I wanted was improvements to the ability to enter behaviors for operations.

But, to agree with the above, one of the things I too have been anxious to see is a richer means of entering text.

However, there are a number of other things on my wish list, as well. I think I will save those for another thread.

One of my pet peeves for some time now has been how small the behavior textbox is. I have a client that wants me to write descriptive behaviors for each operation.
Currently, I find it almost impossible to work in the behavior textbox. I usually cut and paste into my favorite text editor.

Initial Code textbox is huge and resizes. Could there be a splitter effect so if I am working on behaviors I can make the behavior box bigger and the opposite if I want to work with initial code.

Suggestions and Requests / Choosing a parent element not convenient
« on: July 21, 2006, 10:56:34 am »
I work with a repository that has hundreds of classes. We even keep documentation for a couple versions of objects. We use folders to separate everything out.

My problem, I am creating new classes and I want to set the element parent without having to drag the parent class onto the diagram. I use the Advanced Settings | Element Parent dialog and press the Choose button. What I get is a pretty flat list. If I have a base object class in several places (version 1, 2, 3) and I want to use a particular version, I have a hard time figuring out which is which.

Could the set element classifier show the full package hierarchy rather than just the package a class is located in. My problem is that I have a folder named Base in all of the versions of my enterprise libraries. So, seeing the containing package name tells me next to nothing. Either displaying this as a treeview or with the full pathname to the pakcage would be extremely helpful.

I use that all the time. I guess I could write a little utility to go through and do the sorting for me. I was hoping that the interface would make it easier to do. But, I like your thinking. I could update the whole model. ::) What power.

I am not sure that does what I want. I am seeking an aid in rearranging the properties (and attributes) as they appear when a class is placed on a diagram. The report view, I have used and only shows the elements (classes) that make up a diagram, not the properties and attributes.

I guess my point was that I want to organize the information so that when I print diagrams, it appears the way I want it rather than in totally random alphabetical order. [Ed. Note - The oxymoron is intentional. My crude attempt at humor. Give me a break. I am a Canadian, eh!]

Suggestions and Requests / Sorting of information in Operations dialog.
« on: January 12, 2004, 01:32:21 pm »
One suggestion would be to allow sorting by certain attributes: name, stereotype, scope.

I have a model with classes that have a lot of properties and methods. For ease of reading, I would like all of the properties to come first and then other methods after. I am using the fingers to move things around and finding it very tedious.

An alternate approach would be to allow drag and drop movement in these lists. If the first idea was too much to implement, then this would certainly speed up my rearranging of the operations.

This feature would be advantageous for the attributes dialog, as well.

General Board / Re: Class "templates" for business objec

Patterns may be the answer. I too am embarking on using RL's CSLA to do some development. I was thinking of doing the same thing and that was what I thought might be workable.

Patterns, from my understanding allow you to specify a generic pattern for something and then import it into your model. Then when you want to use the pattern, you switch to the Resource View, Drag and Drop your pattern onto the diagram and it will ask you for the new name for all of the classes that are part of the pattern.

Let me know how this turns out. I am going to do some playing too to see how this works.

Much thanks. I knew there had to be a way.

General Board / Animation of Docked Windows in 3.6
« on: October 01, 2003, 03:50:34 pm »
I have upgraded to 3.6 and love the fact that the docked windows allow for hiding them on the toolbar. The only issue I have is the speed at which they open or close. Is there a setting somewhere that would allow me to speed these up?

I am so tickled with the new interface features that I normally would not complain, but I can almost draw the windows faster by hand (a bit of an exageration, but you get my point).

Any clues?

General Board / Finding Objects with Specific Tag Values
« on: June 12, 2003, 12:50:48 pm »
We have been numbering requirements objects to have a unique reference. Now we have discovered it would be nice to sort them by name to find duplicates. We could do that by removing the number from the name and putting it into a tag field.

I tried this by creating a tag field called ID and putting the requirement identifier in this field. When I do a find and check off the check box for tags, scenarios, etc., nothing is found. Am I just missing the point?  ???

Any ideas would be appreciated.

General Board / Importing Conceptual Model From PowerDesigner
« on: August 22, 2002, 11:02:14 am »
I would like to load a conceptual model from PowerDesigner. PowerDesigner creates an XML representation, but it is not XMI. I would be interested to find out if anyone has been able to import this type of information into EA.

Any pointers to tools or ideas, would be appreciated.
