General Board / Update Text for Hyperlinks to Elements
« on: July 11, 2017, 02:41:15 am »
Hi,
Quite often in my use Case description I refer to another use case and use the Hyperlink to element functionality. However, during the Analysis process, I sometimes need to rename the referred Use case. I would like to have my Hyperlink references to those Use Cases updated as well. This should happend automatically so that I can always be sure all references are according to the current name of the element. Any idea how to implement that?
Greetings, Patrick

General Board / Re: Page Setup for Diagrams does not work
« on: July 10, 2017, 08:25:28 pm »
Yes that's what I mean, scale to 1 page would possibly reduce the size of the diagram but does not take into consideration that there is a title above. I want to display the title and use the rest of the page for the diagram.

Thanks Graham_Moir for the reference. I have done the job to go through all those posts and conclude: Yes a lot of things were discussed but I feel this is still not a satisfactory solution. The main points still to be discussed are:

1) The wish to persist diagram filters within the model (and therefore make it available for all users and bound to the model and not to the local installation)
2) The wish (that I brought up in this thread) to persist diagram filters on diagram level (so that a diagram could hold a specific filter only used for this diagram).

As for No 1: Fears were discussed that another user would get surprised by seing a filtered diagram which he did not decide to filter. That could easily be solved by each user having to switch on the filters and to hold the on/off status of a filter on session level.

As for No 2: When using the functionality intensively (for example for keywords etc, specific to a diagram) that would be very useful. Two ideas for implementation A) give the filter a property "scope" so that the user can configure the package level where he wants this filter to be available B) more easy: selection "Model level" or "Diagram level". C) Realize it like the new legend function as an element to be dropped on a diagram (in this case an invisible element). This would make it possible to reuse the same filter on several elements (per link, just as legends) and to see in the choice of filters available while a specific diagram is open all the filters that apply due to these links.

Hi guys
if someone has still a notification on this topic: I feel it got stuck and still a solution needs to be found. I would like to invite you to check out my new topic (2017): http://www.sparxsystems.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1406020469

Bugs and Issues / New Legend Functionality: Legend empty after save
« on: June 30, 2017, 07:21:41 pm »
I place a legend on my diagram, and define its elements. I close the diagram and open it again.
The legend is there but it is empty again.
This is behaviour is independend as far as I see of Which kind of Filter, If Apply auto-color is activvated etc.

I run EA 1309 on Windows 7 in an EAP file
I think it worked before. Does anybody have experience with this?
(It is a great functionality but unfortunately it doesn't work :( )

I would like to write in my Documetation template
Stereotype: .... (variable)
The word Stereotype should only occur if the Stereotype property of the element is filled.
Is there a way to do such a thing in the documentation framework of EA?

ok, thanks for the suggestion!

General Board / Page Setup for Diagrams does not work
« on: June 29, 2017, 06:49:08 pm »
I typically have a Package name and description followed by it's main diagram on one page and I set my template accordingly. The problem is that, yes, the diagram is one 1 page, but it doesn't leave space for my package heading etc. So I was happy to find in the diagram options under diagram -> Advanced -> Page Setup the possibility to limit the size available for diagrams, nearly exactly what I needed. So I used it, set enough space for toe Top Margin to allow the title to use this space. But it doesn't show any effect.
I might have misunderstood the idea of this Diagram's Page setup (even though the help describes it exactly as what I want: the space available for diagrams). But if so: how else can I possibly solve my problem?

General Board / Re: Phase enum in EA?
« on: June 28, 2017, 05:33:36 pm »
Thanks Uffe and Qwerty:

EA has a couple of those heritages. Once thought of as possible good idea, but in practice not really useful (like e.g. the root/view/package concept)...

It looks like the "phase" of an element was once intended to be expressed as an enum, but then that got ditched and replaced with a free-text field....

Hm. Thanks for your analysis of the problem. Strange that Sparx doesn't fix it, at least remove the seduction of the mention of a list. Would be surprised if many are working with  the phase free text field - in the era of Scrum and Sprint plannings etc. In the Generate Documentation Dialog, Option Tab, there are nice UI-based filter options with >, >=, <= which tells me that peple really work with it. But I cannot rename a phase, attribute one to an element etc., so the concept seems to be totally immature after so many versions of EA. I will start a new thread in the "Sugggestions and Requests" compartment.

Ok, thanks for helping me to go the right way. So here it's to discuss "amongst us" what we would wish to suggest to Sparx and to collect a stronger voice, right? Does it make a difference for Sparx or should we then refer to the thread of the forum when making the request there? Or do they check that anyway?

Isn“t this the use case the "Skip Root Package" checkbox in the document generation option is supposed to handle?
Oliver

Thanks, didn't notice - I new something like this must exist (and wonder why it's so hidden, I suppose the structure of most documetations does not want to have one (meaningless) root level heading 1 and all others only heading 2 etc. - but well the important thing that the option does exist. So both replies were helpful.

You can obtain more control over the documents you produce by creating virtual documents:

:) Thanks Polymorph for your work to describe and yes it helps (have used virtual documents only with the intention to combine differenc documents, now through your help realize that even for one only its the way to do! - particularly because of the attributes list filled with packages and of the possibility to manage report level variables which was also a question I never found out how to manage)

Hi!
When creating a documentation I always have to select one only root package. If using a numbered style sheet, this Root package will get the 1, and all it's members get 1.1, 1.2 etc. - so I never see a 2.... How can I ommit the first package level from appearing at all, and hold it only as a bracket to define which (sub-) packages I want to show? I tried to change all the numbering list and ommit the first level - but I wonder (as everybody should hit the same problem even without a numbered list), if this sophisticated method can be the "normal" way?

Help very much appreciated!

Suggestions and Requests / Diagram Filters stored on Diagram level!
« on: June 24, 2017, 02:59:28 am »
Hi!
The Diagram Filters functionality is useful but for users who discovered it and start to use it intensively it shows a problem. The Diagram filters are always stored on Project level (or installation level? didn't check that). However if I create a filter I often create it specifically for a diagram (as it is a diagram filter :D). It would be great to be able to store such a filter on the diagram level, so that it would only be visible when I am on this diagram.

Additional request: I sometimes have additional info on a diagram that typically I hide, only in special occasions I show. Currently I have to use a second version of the digram which is very unsactisfactory. It would be great to be able to set a diagram filter as default filter. When the diagram loads (or prints) the filter is already activated, till I select diagram filters and deactivate it.

How can I incourage you to implement these featuers?  :P
