I'll add a vote for this problem. I can't even control which way the arrow points when I first add the message to the diagram.

It usually aligns with the notional direction of the link and the message direction. But too many arrows point sideways when associated with a vertical line.

Sometimes moving the link object further apart moves the arrow to the correct direction, but sometimes I have to move, and move, and move the object. Diagrams start to look ridiculous.

I've come unstuck on a recent deployment modelling scenario - many of our servers are the same!

Especially for use in automated environments.

Being able to automate the code engineering dialog would provide a significant step forward in syncronising changes across a development project.

Would you not centre the diagram in the resulting document after documentation generation.

Presumably not a big job if only one or two diagrams.
Or not a big job if many diagrams but you edit the output template file. (I haven't tried this mind, so my apologies if this is misleading  )

There are a number of lists of "correct" values spread through the system.

I've just come a cropper again (as usual!) populating the Direction attribute of a connector. I started with the values I read in the help file, but I need to use the exact(?) text.

Having enums or published indexes for stereotypes, element types etc. would really improve the code quality.

Yes - exactly what I was getting at.
Having written (to a just about useable level) the in-house utility to support mangling of models on SQL server its not as trivial as I thought when I started...

This does mean that you need to implement your own processes for creating new models and transferring details to them. Not an issue at all if only a small number of people do this, more of an issue in a distributed environment, but then your company will be used to having to handle it

Hi Bruce,

Wild stab in the dark here (I don't claim any sort of expertise modelling).

If a class is instantiated as a singleton, would this nomenclature be useful(?) to signify that other linked classes weren't? Does it have any impact on code generated in forward engineering?

Given classes are abstract objects rather than "real" ones, it does seem rather strange.

Other uses for those with great modelling subtlety might be in true parallel execution systems (must dig out that erlang compiler)

You best bet is to export your design master as XMI, which other users can then import.

Alternatively, if using the Corporate edition. Store the design master on a globally accessible SQL Server. (And you'll have set up your create-new-model process anyway...)

Perhaps we need to start a thread of corporate only feature requests

Hi there,

EA doesn't support the import of stored procedures (or views), you can roll your own importer, updating EA by directly accessing the database (MS Access) or pumping the EA automation engine.

I wrote one in a mess of code in MS Access  - could share if you can cope with the spagetti.

Assuming you can identify the appropriate objects (links are fairly obvious between tables)

You need to set (add) or reset  (remove) the string "NSL=1;" from the objectstyle column of the t_diagramobjects table

For a quick hack

Load the Architect file into MS Access (or open your server repository. Look for the t_connector table. Editing the direction field will definitely make a difference!
Supported values are Unspecified; Bi-Directional; Source->Destination; Destination->Source.
To ensure you get exactly what you want, edit a couple fo connectors by hand in EA, then look at the database again to see the effect.
