Suggestions and Requests / Keeping EA Current
« on: December 05, 2003, 08:08:23 am »
We have 21 EA licenses and because they are distributed on laptop computers, it is difficult to keep them current. Each developer is responsible to keep his/her license current. As such most developers still have EA version 3.60.637.

I noticed there is a Run Patch function in the tool. Can this function be extended to update EA with the latest build?

As the EA support person, I can download the latest version and make it available to all developers. Then anytime they login into the tool, they can apply whatever patch is available in our New_patch directory.

General Board / Diagrams in RTF report
« on: August 09, 2004, 07:56:21 am »
We are creating RTF reports from many of the use case diagrams. These reports are imbeded in the requirements documents which become a part of the documentation for the application.

The problem we are experiencing is that the RTF documents are saved upon creation. But when we go to open them later, the diagrams have all disappeared.

Same thing happens when we send the RTF report to others as attachments. They open the document only to find that the diagrams are no longer included.  Are we doing something wrong? Or is this bug in EA?

General Board / Design Master location
« on: May 10, 2004, 08:07:24 am »
We have a need to store the Design Master on the web so that folks working from remote locations can have access to it. EA does not seem to create objects to URL.

Does anyone know if this is possible.

We want to be able to create the Design Master to a URL and have each developer use the URL to create a replica. Then we want EA to synchronize the replicas using the URL.

General Board / Re: Registration Keys
« on: May 04, 2004, 06:24:18 am »
We do have a registration key for each workstation.

This particular workstation's registrations key did not work on the new PC. Also keys for the other workstations are different than the original keys.

General Board / Registration Keys
« on: May 03, 2004, 02:15:16 pm »
We purchase licenses for EA about a year ago and got the associated registration keys. All has been well.

We have since upgraded many times to keep up with the latest version of EA.

This week one of my developers had a failed PC and we had to create a new PC for her.  In the process, I noticed when I tried to install EA using the registration key which was assigned to her from the original list, that the registration key was invalid. When I checked other PCs, I found their registration keys were different than the original keys.

Does EA update the registration key each time you upgrade?

General Board / Free Viewer
« on: April 23, 2004, 09:21:08 am »
My boss wants to be able to view projects in EA. He does not want full developer privileges and we do not have extra keys. He just wants to be able to view projects.

Someone said there was a free viewer in EA. What is it and how does it work?

General Board / Re: Viewing EA Tables Store within The EAP file
« on: January 29, 2004, 02:04:12 pm »
Thanks. It worked.
The hyperlink is needed to link each project to the corresponding homepage in our eRoom. I need to be able to link to the corresponding issues management page for each project.

General Board / Viewing EA Tables Store within The EAP file
« on: January 29, 2004, 12:03:06 pm »
I read that information for Model Aythors, Clients, Resources and Roles are stored in tables within the .EAP  file. Can I view these tables? Is there a tools to browse these tables?

I would also like to add a hyperlink to the Diagram Properties Notes in my Design Master so that each diagram created will have this hyperlink.
Is this possible?

General Board / Re: Moving internal requirements
« on: December 19, 2003, 07:49:49 am »
We are experiencing the same problem. We are creating our base model and have to populate the properties. Sine we have a list of all our developers in the Oracle db, I was wondering if it is possible to somenow use this list and not re-enter all the names. I know the information is stored in an Access db table in EA, but do not know how to access this table.

Any help will be appreciated.

General Board / Local  Directories vs Replication
« on: December 01, 2003, 09:53:05 am »
I am new to EA and hope my question makes sense.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
I am studing the replicate function on EA. So far I think it works by me creating a new project on our network drive after our base model and making it the Design Master. Our developers can then go into EA and and create new replicas.

Whenever they want to synchronize with the Design Master they select tools/manage.eap files/synchronize replicas. the select the Design Master replication occurs.

If this is correct then how do I use the Local Directories function and what is it good for?

General Board / I am new to the tool
« on: November 05, 2003, 07:44:01 am »
I was introduced to the tool about a month ago.  The 5-day class was aborted after the 3rd day because of Hurricane Isabel. We returned last week to complete the class, but had to use the first day to review. We rush through the remainder of the class without a firm grasp on the content.  It is a complex tool.

Today I was called into my boss's office and told that I should become the primary contact/expert for EA.

I need to know the tool very well and quickly.

I know the tool has online help. Are there any text books that you can recommend? Anything to get me off and running.

I am not totally green to design and development. I have used Oracle Designer in the past.

Any help will be appreciated.
