Bugs and Issues / Cannot connect to any RDBMS

I am having a hard time trying to set up the RDBMS data source for our EA 7.5.845 (Corporate Edition). I am following all instructions given on SPARX site, and have successfully created repositories as described by the installation guidelines on various databases, such as SQL Server (Experess 2005), MySQL (INNODB) 5.0, PostgreSQL 8.1, locally and on a remote server.
However, while I can connect from my local server to remote servers, connect locally and vice verse, and even though the connection tests during the EA setup (the "Test connection" button) work perfectly, I am unable to connect to any of the repositories. It gives a dialog box "Invalid Data Source... Check Connection". Subsequently, the status bar shows the message "Opening project. Please wait..." forever.
I know it actually can work using this type of configuration because I use EA on our customer's site with SQL Server and it does work there without any problems. They use the same RDBMS (MSSQL 2005) and same OS (Windows XP SP3) versions. We also have all latest patches and updates from Microsoft installed.
I am not a novice and have set up many databases and data sources on large networks, but this time I am stuck. Does anyone have a tip what to do to fix this problem? Do I need something more than just ordinary ODBC? Do I need a JDBC driver installed somewhere?
