Suggestions and Requests / Linking into "Diagram Frames"

I've recently found "Diagram Frames" as a very useful tool to create "instances" of workflows.  So when I update the original workflow, all the instances are updated as well.

The downside to this approach is I can't Link anything to the elements inside the original diagram.  So for example, in oneinstance of a workflow, step one creates an instance of Object X with data attributes a,b,c.  In the second instance of the workflow step one create an instance of Object Y with data values m,n,o.

Because it is a diagram frame there isn't a way to link those object instances to activity one.

(Currently I just create "actions" that link to the data, and then hide them behind the diagram so it looks correct.)

Background:  
 I;m writing test cases for a service based system.  So I'm creating diagrams that show the how the test case flows through the services, and the data changes as each point in the flow.

 People are finding it quite useful.

I would mimic Visio.  When they rotate an object, the text rotates as well.

We us EA as our architecture design tool (rather than visio) because it allows us to keep things organized in one model.  It would be a nice set of features if EA began to support some general "drawing" capabilities like rotate diagram objects.

This wouldn't likely ever be used on things like class diagrams or sequence diagrams, but when you start to get into "fuzzy" architectural pictures, I've had a few occasions where I wish I could rotate an object.

Suggestions and Requests / Help... Replication error!  Master is corrupt

We have setup a master and a replica for an off site office.  Us local folks share the master, and every couple of days we synch up with the offsite replica.

We have hit a showstopper of a snag...  Somehow our master got messed up.  We can edit it normally, but it won't allow us to synchronize because it says it is not a master.  We cannot "Make Design Master" because it says it is a master.  So for some cases the software still knows its a master, but when it comes to synching, or creating new replicas it fails because it says it isn't a master.

Any help on how to fix this?  My group is evaluating EA (because I really hate rose) but this is a pretty big issue.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

Note:  We are currently using the pro version.

I agree.  The fact that I can generate heading level appropriately using the default generator, but not using the templates is tremendously annoying and means I have extra work every time someone wants a report (i.e. daily).

I am currently working on a design that is a system of systems.  In other words there is no "final system" there is only this collection of systems that when they collaborate you get the desired behavior.

Anyway, each system needs to have the several views (logical, use case, etc.).  But they way the EA is setup now, if I want these views, each system must be a root node.  And so generating my system of system documentation is a bit of a hassle.

Still doable, but just an idea.  Why can views only be under a root node.  A root node is just a package, so why can't I place views under packages.

Request...

I'm using the 2003 layout, and I really like the tabbed views of the diagrams I have open.  One thing that would be really nice would be to be able to add a tab for the source code.  

Right now it looks like the source code viewer can only be added as a pane, or as a tab within one of the other views (like the project viewer, etc.).

Would be nice because one click I can see the code using almost all the screen, and then hide it completely while I diagram.

Is there an automated way to synchronize replicas?

We are currently working with a group on the other side of the US, and to speed things up we have two masters (really just one master, and one replica that they synch with as their master).  Once a day we manually synch these two masters, allowing us to keep in synch.  It would be nice if we could setup a cron job to do this every night.

Question:  Why does my file size EXPLODE when I control packages and save to XML files?

I'm stuck using clearcase so I have to control packages using the saved XML files.  However, in doing so I 've noticed my .eap file size has gone from a couple megs to over 60 megs.

The saved xml packages aren't even close to that big.  The eap file before the saving of packages wasn't close to being that big.  What happend?

Nope, still can't see notes in my project browser.

I can select a note on a diagram, and if I go to menu "Element->Locate in project browser" nothing happens.

But the note isn't in my browser tree.  So how do I Ctrl+Delete something that I can't even find in my model?

Question...

When I delete a note off of a diagram, it still shows up in my rtf documentation.  How do I delete a note object from the model.  Notes don't show up in the project browser so I have no idea how to get rid of this item.
