Suggestions and Requests / Re: IDEA: Stereotyped Template Diagrams
« on: March 14, 2007, 04:15:31 am »
Hi Paolo,

This would be a good feature that I guess will help a lot the users.
So far I am using different apps to deal with Data Models (and diagramming) - I can use stereotypes, I can swith from ERD to IDEFIX whenever I want (actually I like these better than UML for DBs), I can easily define "abstract" tables with properties that are then inherited by the childern etc.
Having a better Stereotyped Template Diagram would perhaps convince me to use just one tool (EA) instead of using several.

Well done.

Hi t-kono,

It would be very nice and helpful if you'll upload somewhere the template. I would very much appreciate this.

Nevertheless, as you pointed out, it would be better if EA will directly support Ruby and perhaps Ruby on Rails as well.

Hi t-kouno,

Thanks your the code - though I am not that good in Japanese - I will try to find out if I understand how to use it.

I already sent the request to EA team.
Hopefully EA will support eventually Ruby, and maybe Ruby On Rails as well.

Regards,
VAsile

I've noticed t-kouno pointed out to a code template for Ruby, but the page (http://www.sparxsystems.jp/bin/ruby_code_template.xml) is in Japanese. Maybe somebody the has done this can help. Otherwise I will have to find my way through the maze.

Suggestions and Requests / Ruby and Ruby On Rails Support
« on: February 23, 2007, 01:46:25 am »
Hi,

(This thread is related to this one: http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=general;action=display;num=1172155515. David (Midnight) suggested to reopen the thread under Suggestions and Requests - thanks David)

Just a simple question:
- Sparx has some plans for implementing support for Ruby and/or Ruby On Rails?

Reasoning for asking the question:
- I really like EA. It is a very useful and powerful tool
- Ruby, and especially Ruby On Rails (aka RoR) are gaining a lot of velocity lately
- Ruby is a "very" OO programming - or scripting - whatever this means  - language (much more powerful than PHP - sorry but it's true)
- Other "scripting languages have already support form EA (PHP, Python, JS I guess too)

Thanks,
Vasile

Hi all,

Perhaps it my fault since I choose a wrong word (WINDOW). I could've choose a different word to raise the case.
The issue of "Synchronization of ..." stands and I personally think that both Thomas and Paolo posted valid agruments and their intention (I do belive this) is to help Sparx provide a better products => thus they, as users of EA, will be happier because the tool really hleps. And this might be true for others as well.

Best,
Vasile

Hi Thomas,

I see where you are getting. Generally you're right. It is hard sometimes to really understand what exactely one should do to accomplish a task, a merely simple one though. I messed up some projects, then I figured out my way around and I trying not to use features that I feel not secure in using them and that might mess things up.

Hi Paolo (please don't take me wrong)
How can you figure out a window is female and not male in English? Than, what is a ball, a ballpen, etc. From my knowledge, except for several objects (like ship, car) that clearly SHE for the ones that are using them, for all other objects there is no clear way in English to say male/female. One simply just does not use such differentiation in English.
Another example would the proposition "My friend lives in San Francisco." Can you tell is a HE or is a SHE. You can not. Same applies even stronger to objects.
Just my two cents.

And I guess you understood what Thomas meant to say (like him I am not a native English speaker) - but you wanted more specifics from his post. And he provides later when actually understood your point.
Good post both of you - thanks.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Sharepoint integration
« on: February 25, 2007, 11:59:53 pm »
Hi,

To open a specific filetype from SharePoint this particular filetype should be "registered" with SharePoint.
For example, before trying to use PDF files within SharePoint in a proper way (see as well JimB's reply earlier) it is recommended for one to read the following MS KB article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832809
This will fully explain all necessary steps needed to have PDF files working within SharePoint.
Something similar should be done for EA file - that is, perhaps Sparx Systems should create an IFilter file.

An interesting link I just found last week regarding EA and SharePint is this one http://www.eausergroup.org/
There are some interesting link and posts there.
Hope this will help,
Vasile

Thanks David,

I started a new thread on S&R.
Here is the link http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=suggestions;action=display;num=1172223985;start=0#0.
I have noticed some USERS efforts for Ruby, but unfortunatelly the links point to a page in Japanese. I will try to make my way through the maze :)
