General Board / Re: Tagged values in CSV export, how?
« on: February 13, 2007, 12:30:33 pm »
Although the use of Visual Basic and database access may be a solution for some, it is most likely beyond the skills of many EA users. I would assume EA users come from a variety of backgrounds, many of which do not include software engineers/programmers. Also, schedules typically do not provide engineering time to investigate and implement add-ons for tools.

Excuse me if I have overlooked any postings, but this is the only thread I found addressing the subject. Has a request for the export of tagged values using the CVS import/export feature of EA been submitted? This would be a very valuable enhancement, especially for us that have to deal with other tools such as DOORS. I am familiar with the DOORS add-in but require the ability to round trip requirements between EA and DOORS. The CSV export is my only option until the DOORS add-in is enhanced to work in the other direction.

Any attribute added to DOORS can be imported using CSV so that half of the problem is solved. Now if I could just EA to play along...

Thanks.

Thank you Simon. I am able to use the Stereotype field for a CSV import, and it also gets dumped during a CSV export. The DOORS addin does not list this field for mapping. Any chance of adding to DOORS addin as a future enhancement?

I have the same issue. If it doesn't appear in the list of fields in the Mapping Wizard, then you cannot load it from DOORS. The same holds true for the CSV import and export functions of EA. The Requirements Type is not a selectable field in the CSV Import/Export Specification dialog either. Adding it to the list of selectable fields should be an easy enhancement for both products that would provide a more complete solution.

Another behavior to be aware of is mapping to tagged values. One might assume that the Created By, Created On and Last Modified would update the related EA fields, however, understand that they are mapped to tagged values by default; user defined fields. This becomes very clear whenever you open the tagged value view and select a requirement element. You will see that tagged values are created for the element in the view, but the properties dialog for the requirement will remain unchanged.  The Created By can easily be mapped to Author, but you cannot change dates to reflect the original requirements in DOORS. Once again, it would be nice to have the ability to map to actual fields of the requirement element.
