Suggestions and Requests / Re: Screen Size and Delete Function
« on: January 27, 2006, 02:30:37 am »
Could I request to have a system option to determine if I'm allowed to delete packages and all contained info from the model directly from the diagram. There have been several instances recently where this would have been useful to do directly from a diagram.

...but bear in mind that you can't currently delete a package in 6.1 using ctrl-delete on a diagram...nothing happens...seems like a bug that needs fixing?

Suggestions and Requests / Autokeyword Highlighting
« on: December 07, 2005, 07:02:24 am »
One feature I've always wanted to see in EA is auto-keyword highlighting.

During the analysis and design of a system there there's a lot of textual documentation that gets added to model elements that refers to other model elements. However if the name of that element changes it requires someone (me normally) to manually run through everything in the model to make sure that all the references to it get correctly updated.

If EA could be set-up to automatically highlight keywords based on user preferences (keywords, element type etc) and maintain the link even if the name changes (including automatically updating the name in the referenced text) and futher more providing the ability, from a model element, to see what text is referencing it then it would save lots of hassle, reduce the error prone process and provide a more complete solution when defining a system.

Borland CaliberRM has something like this (although it could use some improvement) and people that I've worked with using this tool have found it to be extremely useful.

Suggestions and Requests / List of suggestions

1. Introduction of the OMG RAS standard to help with reuse.

2. Option that determines where lines are drawn by default on diagrams - either "middle of element" as is currently the case or "at cursor location"

3. Option to leave connection points at exact location when resizing elements. Currently resizing will move the connectors which can be a real pain in e.g. large activity diagrams

4. Automatic resizing of elements to fit text e.g. objects on activity diagrams do not resize to fit the text entered.

5. Introduction of Software Services Profile to provide higher level of abstraction from WSDL profile.

6. Tutorial for use of instance classifiers as a mechanism to move from analysis to design - they are extremely powerful and the current 1 paragraph coverage doesn't do it justification.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Hyperlinked Model Elements
« on: May 03, 2005, 01:52:42 pm »
Thats right Alexander - I want to be able to put hyperlinks into the text. I find that diagrams are fine but, I still end up with quite a bit of text in the notes field for elements and often they refer to other model elements. Instead of having to manually enter the text adding a link to the other model element removes the chance for error (unless I select the wrong model element) and also give a nice link to the other model element so when you're reading the text you can automatically traverse to the element.

Suggestions and Requests / Hyperlinked Model Elements
« on: May 03, 2005, 08:50:49 am »
I've already requested this a while back directly to Sparx but thought I'd post it here as I got no feedback before.

I put quite a lot textual description against elements in my models. Often the text refers to other model elements.

I'd like a feature that I can drag a model element onto a textual description and a hyperlink to the element is automatically created. The name of the link is the name of the element and can automatically be updated if the referenced model element changes.

General Board / Re: Decomposing Activity Diagrams
« on: October 18, 2006, 02:28:14 am »
Hi Stefan,

Well thats I needed to do but unfortunately EA doesn't quite allow me to do everything I'd wanted.

Essentially I want to define a generic set of activities that I can reuse in other activity diagrams, rather than having to manually create the activities in each diagram they're used in.

I also want to be able to modify the original generic diagram over time and have all the changes reflected in the diagrams that use it too. Currently EA only reflects the changes you make to the elements that were copied as a link in the first place - if you delete something, for instance a control flow between activities, then add it back in again it's seen as a different object and therefore not reflected in the diagrams in which its been copied.

What are the chances of getting this as an enhancement?

The problem with that is it adds a nasty big AD frame onto the activity on the parent diagram you've got. I just want it to shows the activities directly without the frame. Like manually doing it but automating it to save me the hassle.

General Board / Decomposing Activity Diagrams
« on: October 17, 2006, 06:33:03 am »
It's been a while since I've actively used EA so I'm a little rusty...easy question for someone to answer.

I have 2 Activity diagrams that each refer to a process defined in a 3rd activity diagram. On the 2 main diagrams I'd like to include the 3rd diagram along with the actual details on the screen. I've tried all the ways I could remember to achieve this but with no joy...any help welcomed (apart from rtfm  :P

Also I'd like to make sure that when (and I'm sure I will) update the 3rd diagram it also updates the 2 in which its referenced.

Many thanks

Rob

Darn it - you beat me to it Bruno.

And just to add that this is the way that the other UML tools (RSA, Artisan, Tau etc) achieve this result....so don't give up on EA yet...it really is a most fantastic tool - in fact its a fun tool too and its not often you can say that....and for what you pay it's unheard of value for money (even better than ASDA)

p.s. ASDA is a UK supermarket that brands itself on value for money for those of you that didn't know ;-)

General Board / Links from a Part back to its Class
« on: January 12, 2006, 07:02:13 am »
After I create a Part from a Class by ctrl-dropping a class from the Project Browser onto a class on a Composite Structure diagram, how do I get back to the details of the class from which it was originally created?

The only way I could find it to manually locate the Class referenced by the part in the Project Browser e.g. find Class1 from Part1:Class1 -> but there is no automated mechanism that I could find in EA...anyone help out?

Guys,

Still no explicit "unset" option AFAIK but it actually makes me smile when I have to create and delete a diagram to do the unset...a small price to pay for a good smile  ;D

Anyone able to give me a slightly better description about how to actually go about doing this...it may just be that it's a little early in the morning for me still and I'm just not getting it today!!

Thx in advance

Does anyone have the Software Services UML Profile in a format that can be imported into EA?

Thx in advance

General Board / Re: Notes of interface parameters not in HTML outp
« on: May 20, 2005, 08:12:51 am »
ok...I'll answer my own post.

In the HTML Template there is a Parameter tag - unfortunately the list is not in alphabetic order and theres no description of what each tag means and how it'll look but thats another matter.

Simply add the #NOTES# tag somewhere against Parameter and that'll do the trick.
