Bugs and Issues / Re: Sequence diagrams: notes move fragments

Either moving a note (without ALT) should move fragments below *together* with their messages and respecting other elements, or not at all.

SABOEAB: Still A Bunch Of Enterprise Architect Bugs

I've become more and more convinced that Sparx are not using EA for any serious work. Latest versions (including Version 15 build 1512), have so many bugs and inconveniences that any serious user would find a bucketful within a few days.

"Write a bug report" is the typical response. With the many current issues, which should have been found with any level of testing, it appears to me that anything beyond "it compiles" is left to us users to find and report.

My last bug I wrote 2019-05-19, about a hanging EA. I went through the work of starting up a debugger, hooking onto the hanging EA, and provided the actual instructions over which EA was looping. 5 days later a request for further information, I responded within the hour, EA then responded with another request more than 2 months later, which admittedly I have ignored as I've bought and started using another EA product (simply got so tired of Sparx "quality").
Unfortunately I still have a bunch of projects modeled with Sparx EA, so I can't fully get rid of it yet. And when I do get back to Sparx EA, it seems that all they have been doing is adding new bugs and inconveniences.

My suggestion to Sparx is this: Start using EA for some real work, and start fix bugs - If you can't find any, you're not using it!

A couple of starting points:
  • Correctly calculate the with of text (auto-size, word-wrap, placement of the reading direction arrow, etc).
  • Create a simple BPMN, one diagram, with some elements and rearrange them - Then have fun moving connectors into place, and have them *stay* there.
  • Try to resize *any* object on a diagram where you have scrolled away from top-left corner of the diagram...

Things are supposed to move around on their own.
I presume you mean "are not supposed"

By moving around, I do not mean semantically, "just" graphically - Like how they get routed from source to destination. I will try record a few sessions and post a report.

Well, camunda-modeler doesn't seem to be repository-based, and not supporting Global tasks the way I want it, to me it is just a quite nice BPMN drawing tool. Apart from having to rename the extension from .bpmn to .xmi in order for EA to be able to read them, the import is pretty straight forward. I could wish for EA to be as simple to use for Work shops and the like...

Bugs and Issues / BPMN arrows and labels have their own life

For me drawing BPMN diagrams in EA is a pain!
When using EA for BPMN I use a lot of time rearranging arrows and labels over and over and over again. Just as you think everything is nice you save, and when you reopen the diagram, arrows and labels have moved around.

When I work with a customer I often use Camunda-modeler in order to avoid becoming side-tracked by these nuisances, and then I import the diagrams into EA, with whatever work that causes...

Am I the only one experiencing these issues?

Bugs and Issues / Re: Lateral Horizontal/Vertical connector style

I have to be fair - I've just tested Lateral line style in 12.1 (1224), and here it appears to work.
Some of my customers refuse to upgrade beyond 11, so I have work with that...

Well, I'll just have to tell them to upgrade, again, I suppose.

According to KP should a Lateral Horizontal association end with a Horizontal line toward the target.

When I drag an association from Class1 to Class2, and set it to Lateral Horizontal, I get a horizontal line from Class1 then a vertical line to Class2.
As a additional "funny" thing, when checking the Line Style, it is marked as Lateral Vertical   ???
If you then increase the width of Class1 one grid-size to the right (grid size 8 ), the line suddenly becomes Lateral Horizontal again  :o

I fully understand that you, and others, use the Orthogonals, but really: If feature are released, they should work! - If they do not work, they should not be released.

Btw: Thanks for responding Glassboy :)

Perfect - Thanks a lot.
Now I also found the relevant page in the EA help  :)

This thread got awfully silent...
Is this an indication of: "It works at me, so he's just an idiot", "DUH, this is embarrassing" or "Who cares..." ?

I'm trying to make a custom toolbox for my MDG technology.
The toolbox should contain UML-Activity-Receive and UML-Activity-Send.
I can reference UML::Event, which result in a kind'a Send event, but how do I reference a Receive Event?
I guess that would also solve my problem with Synchronization (using the Horizontal and Vertical versions)...

Hi KP

So a Lateral Horizontal association dragged from Class1 to Class2 should result in a horizontal line toward Class2...
Right, could you do me a favor and get this project: http://knaldgas.dk/~pdj/YAEAB.eap 1.2MB, drag an association from Class1 to Class2, and set it to "Lateral Horizontal".

Looking forward to your response...

Geert,

The orthogonal style is a bit too flexible in my case, I don't want to use time on fiddling with the connector end positions, just have them centered like the lateral style does (I have many associations originating from the same class).

I guess Lateral line style can be put into the YAEAB bin >:(

What's the business with the Lateral Horizontal vs Lateral Vertical connector style?
To me it appears that it is more or less random what happens when I select one or the other.

What exactly is Lateral Horizontal supposed to do? First horizontal out from the source, then vertical? - Or perhaps the opposite?

I'm sure there must be some logic to it, but I have yet failed to reveal that logic...
Any hints?

DUH!!! - Qwerty = Thomas Kilian  ;D

Well, apparently I'm not the brightest bulb on the porch ::)

14
Hmm, some of these (very valid tickets) are several years old - It really appears that Sparx just don't care...

15
It's quite surprising to me that executing own scripts wasn't the first thing they implemented...

It's like every time I try to make anything to ease my customers needs, I get hit by one or another EA-shortcoming... It's getting more and more frustrating.  >:(
I wish that Sparx would read Thomas Kilians E-books on EA, and just start fixing the issues he mention. Thomas could actually just post a bug-report and attach his e-books  ::)
Sorry for whining - it's not your fault  :)

I'll post a feature request...

Thanks
