General Board / Logical model from Reversed engineered model
« on: November 20, 2015, 06:46:46 pm »
I have a reversed engineered model, and was looking into a way to make the model look less complex, and create a logical model out of that.

Purpose is to only have the tables and their relations shown.

Can this be achieved in a glimps?

Either by collapsing columns, hiding all columns...
Without having do drag all tables into a new schema, and manually delete all columns?

General Board / Jump directly to column from search
« on: November 20, 2015, 05:35:22 pm »
I need some help navigating to columns from search in EA.

I'm charged with renaming columns that have a typo.

Now I use the extended search to find the incorrect column names.
But the search just shows the entities, then I need to open the entity, go to table details, go to columns, and browse (eyeballing) to find the column.

Is there an easier way, so I could just have the incorrect column names shown in the search results and rename them from there.
Any option the reduce the number of steps to be take, are most welcome.

General Board / Re: Bulk rename columns

Thanks Geert.

For the xmi export, I'm puzzled... all options are greyed out.
Did try an apply user lock, but still...

any idea?

Is there an easy way to rename columns in bulk?

I have a model with column names with a fixed strings in which a typo was made.
Looking for a quick way to overcome a tedious job...

Geert,

Thanks for giving some direction, I already understood that there was no one answer. Having now some approaches eases to make the choice.

General Board / Source / Target mappings

I'm pretty new to EA and the visual modelling stuff, before I did it all in excel.

I'm looking for some guidance on how to set the following up:.

I want to document dataflows and map processes to tables and information elements to fields of a table, so I can have lineage on which process uses which data element.

I want to map user interface elements (make a printscreen or uml model) to map the user interface elements to the fields of a table.

How to best report on which interface elements / processes use which data elements? Is this possible in the standard reporting to see the dependencies (what data is where used)?.

Untill now I haven't found an easy way to create for example an information store that maps to a table, so the information store can be used on the flow / transformation between two entities or processes.
I know this kind of behaviour in Oracle SQL data modeler, but was hoping to find this in EA, since there are more possibilities to document user interfaces and intermediate layers (business and logical).
