Suggestions and Requests / auto-sizing the Recent Models list
« on: May 20, 2005, 06:12:36 am »

EA Team--

Here is a suggestion for (what I hope is) a small change.

Please consider auto-sizing the Recent Models list on the startup screen.

It would be nice to auto-expand this list, (as much as screen space allows), to show as much of the file name as possible.

For example, in EA V5 I have a model called "RulesEngineV01ArchitectureModelV01.EAP" and when the "Recent Models" displays it turncates this to "RulesEngineV01ArchitectureModel", which just so happens to be the name of an older model, so it can be confusing. I know that a roll-over will display the full name; but, with all the whitespace to the right of the Recent Models list, it seems silly to let it go to waste.

Anyway, that's just a thought.

Thank you.

EA Team--

This is a minor suggestion (for an already great tool).

Please consider providing built-in MDA transformations supporting VB.NET.

It looks like C# transformations are built-in; but, VB.NET transformations are not. Of course, if I am wrong about this (as I am about many things), then I would be happy to be corrected.

Given the similarity of the languages, I am hoping that such an addition will not be too much trouble.

It is just a thought.

Thank you.

Suggestions and Requests / non-modal help window
« on: May 18, 2005, 08:44:43 am »

EA Team--

How about an option to use a non-modal help window?

(Note that this is not a pure use of the word "modal"; but, it suffices.)

For example, right now with EA 5.0 on WindowsXP Pro, suppose one has an EA Model Window open and an EA Help Window open. Futher suppose that one currently is viewing and has focus set to the maximized EA Help Window. In this case, note that one cannot use ALT+TAB to switch to the EA Model Window.

One way to solve this might be to do something like VS.NET 2003 does, where they offer the user the option to use Internal Help (which opens in the self-same environment as the code base) or use External Help (which opens in a completely different window).

I just thought this might be nice.

Thank you.

General Board / hide relationship notes in a DB diagram
« on: May 18, 2005, 06:28:31 am »
How can one hide relationship notes in a DB diagram?

I am using EA 4.5 and I cannot find the way to globally hide these elements.

For example, suppose one has imported the Northwind schema from SQL Server 2000. Further suppose that the Orders table and the OrderDetails table are put on a new diagram. When this is done, the FK/PK relationship is shown graphically as a line and that line is decorated with labels at each end (showing the name of the PK or FK) and with a label in the middle (showing the association, "OrderID=OrderID"). I would like to globally hide the end labels and the middle label.

What do you think?

Please advise.

Thank you.
