Got it, I've gotten lazy with EA's previous relaxed approach..... The comparision with states and state machines was very helpful.... Thnx.....

Ok, so if I look here:  https://www.uml-diagrams.org/activity-diagrams.html
It says "Activity Edge is an abstract class for the directed connections along which tokens or data objects flow between activity nodes. It includes control edges and object flow edges. The source and target of an edge must be in the same activity as the edge.

Activity edge is notated by an open arrowhead line connecting two activity nodes. "

And the picture shown looks to me like a control flow, so rather than discussing what the name is, which relationship should I use in EA to do what it says here?

Bugs and Issues / What am I missing

I distinctly remember being able to link to activities using a control flow, yet currently, I get a message that this is not UML complant. So, create an activity diagram, add a statr node and 2 activities and when I try to add any controlflow, it refuses. This is on EA 15.2. and 15.1, however, on 14.1 it works fine (although for a control flow between two activities I have to drag from the toolbox, rather than using the diagram control). When I load the 14.1 diagram in 15.2, it shows the flow, I can edit it, but it still refuses to add new flows to those elements. What am I missing, or is this not as it should be?

Bugs and Issues / Re: 15.2 and SQL error

So I did and it turns out that it was an add-on, in my case the RAMI toolbox, which I was intending to use for some Industry 4.0 work, but never did. So I simply removed that add-on and it was solved. No more errors....

Bugs and Issues / Re: EA using Wine and ODBC
« on: October 01, 2021, 06:16:13 pm »
I tried CodeWeaver and did not see much improvement over Q4Wine and Wine, other than the problem being related to the Wine version. I got in touch with Sparx support and was recommended a DLL override which solved the problem. Have not renewed CodeWaver, could not justify the price for what it offered.

The fix was to override msado15.dll, The Wine 5 I am running now seems back to normal, so it might have been just glitch. I've kept the override for now. The documentation from Sparx was updated to include this suggestion.

Bugs and Issues / Re: v15 Attributes dialog is gone again!

Apparently, there is is little interest in keeping things fluid. Now every time I work with a form of a data model, I am forced into a rather inefficient workflow. I cannot understand someone ditching an efficient edit and replacing it with a two-part edit.

And on top of that, after bringing it back, it was removed again. It might fit in some grander scheme, but ultimately, shouldn't we have a choice? I am still contemplating if I should move back to 14.1 and not decided. But I have not renewed my subscription as I am thinking about what next. As a customer, if you don't feel your concern is being taken serious, there are only a few options left. Generally I like to stay current, as very release brings interesting new options. But from 14.1 to 15+ it also brought an irritant.

Bugs and Issues / Re: 15.2 and SQL error

Good tip, but the last entry is more than a year old. Oddly enough I tried opening a database I hadn't touched in a while, and I got the error, but the repo  still opened. Since then, the other also open but the error is still shown.

I am wondering if it has something to do with the reference  data that you import/export? But in all my years with EA, this one is new to me. Based on the efforts so far, I an thinking it might not be related to the DBMS, but what is it then?

Bugs and Issues / 15.2 and SQL error
« on: September 16, 2021, 12:14:08 am »
Since 15.2 I'm getting errors when I open a repo in PostgreSQL, where 15.1 had no issue. Now I get a box saying "SQL Error at updating Reference Data" and not quite sure where to look. The PostgreSQL server runs on the host, Mint 20.1, so could have been updated, 15.2 I installed, but haven't used much of late, my employer has provided a license on their laptop, so I've not been using it a lot. I do remember it was working perfectly. So any suggestions on what to check first would be appreciated. I did open de ODBC manager, and the test connection is fine. From a PgAdmin view, it looks good, but it's not.

I run KDE Neon, which is essentially the lastest KDE on top of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Using the WineHQ packages I get all kinds of weird errors, but no ODBC. I tried the wine packages from Buster, that yields a message that the database has no tables (which is not the case). But the native 18.04 packages, the development version, work well. Screen updates have suffered in 15.1, a few versions ago, Wine problems had been addressed and it worked very well. But now, after dialogues, there's some ghosting. Nothing so far to prevent it from being used, but noticeable nonetheless. Perhaps I should try 4.2, 5 (stable and development) from WineHQ didn't do anything for me. Right now, I'm on 3.6.

I would like the dialog back, besides, now it is beyond weird, you get the new dialog when you select 'attributes', but the old one when you select an attribute. The new dialog screws up my workflow, the old one didn't, I'd prefer my tools support my workflow, not just the viewpoint from a designers perspective. I'm fine with the option being brought back. Better yesterday than tomorrow. Might just drop back to 14.1. Or just build a new dialog that supports the old workflow. Anything but this.....

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Fix the feature screen
« on: June 09, 2018, 06:22:21 pm »
Also, I submitted a feature request, not a support request, nor a bug request. Because the new functionality works, as designed, but just in a much less focussed manner. And I get normally people would suggest new features, not the return of old features. But if suggest feature isn't the correct route to highlight what is IMO a bit of faux pas, then Iĺl gladly send it into another process chain.Whatever gets it some serious consideration and not a 5 sec glance over with a 'naah, let's not'. Or perhaps I am missing a new super approach that is more efficient and need some explanation. But one fact remains, what was pretty slick in -13.5, has since 14, become a clunky way of working. It reminds me of RSA in a way, the same, it works, but not in a nice way feeling. I am not alone in thinking this...... But EA can be used for many things in many different ways and the finding applies really only to one of EA core functions, class and data modelling.

I did that, even got a mail as confirmation:

Quote
The following feature request was submitted by Chris xxxxxxxx (mailto:chrisxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)

FEATURE DETAILS

Subject:
EA14 Feature screen

Details:

lots of details trimmed....

The form submittal said someone would be in touch, but perhaps I misread and it only applies to support requests, not feature requests. I used the form. It would have been nice to have some feedback. Either 'not going to happen', so I know 13.5 is my last version, or some kind of timeline. As it is essentially a plea to reinstate s former UI path, or to expand the new UI path to work more ergonomically, it is not really a trivial thing, it relates directly to EA's practical usability. A feature which I have used with some success to promote EA in my client's workplace, where there is a natural tendency to go for more expensive and less useful tools. Anyway.... we shall see.

After following the correct procedure, which informs me that someone from Sparx will contact me, it has gone quiet. Not sure what that means....Of course, there“s no mention of timelines, so this might be part of the process.

Suggestions and Requests / Fix the feature screen
« on: May 24, 2018, 07:35:57 pm »
In EA 14, the feature screen makes entering a series of attributes  / operations a pain. Unfortunately, I do quite a bit of both. In 13.5, you work on a dialog that contains all three bits, the notes, the extra settings and the name, type, visibility etc... This is helpful and efficient.

In EA 14, there's a feature screen and 2 tabes of the property screen required to enter the same information. This makes entering attributes / operations a lot more work and it takes significantly more time.

I can suggest two possible solutions, or any other that allows me to enter an attribute / operation in full from a single screen:
1. Make the feature screen optionally look like the old dialog, if you want the feature screen to remain dockable, that's fine.
2. Allow the feature screen to have custom sets of fields, so the ones I use a lot are on a single line. Note that this set differs per type of feature, so for this to work well, it should have either a labelling system or other form of memory. Everything that is there on the EA 13.5 screen should be selectable.

Although I love many improvements I see in EA 14, time is money and this slowdown is enough to prevent me from moving to 14.
