General Board / Re: RTF Document Generation

> I do just the same, except I use PERL. This way it's indeed very flexible!

Many years ago, when I were using Rational Rose, we used VB in Word to generate the documentation. Eventually we started to use Rational SoDA and I must say that was an improvement. The documentation "scripts" were much easier to maintain.

VB doesn't really make my day anymore, but I'm looking for an excuse to learn Perl. Could you say a little bit more about how you use Perl here, and if you really feel generous  :) share some  of the code if you aren't restricted by company policy or something like that. I would really be grateful.

Has anything happened with the table of figure issues and figure numbering. So far I haven't found a way, however roundabout, to do this. Inserting SEQ-fields in the template doesn't work either.

Any solution?

I'm using EA version 6.1.790.

General Board / Run state order
« on: December 01, 2005, 11:53:05 pm »
Are there any way to order the run states (apart from entering them in the "reverse" order)? I'm looking for something like the attribute order buttons.
And while I will admit that this isn't a big thing I really like things in a particular order. I'm however quite sure that this is a personal fault.  ;)

General Board / Attribute repository
« on: October 20, 2005, 01:05:31 am »
I love my EA and try to use it where I can even though it isn't a standard in the company thet employs me or the one that hires me. I'm working on it though.  :)

One of the thing I use it for is database modelling. The standard product is ERWIN, but it's so expensive that only a few db experts actually have it. One of the reasons they stick to it is that it has a repository of all attributes in the model, and when you "refer" or reuse an attribute (foreign key or a general thing like a timestamp) they just pick the attribute from the repository. The clear advantage here is one definition of common attributes with one description which is reused everywhere. Additional local comments can be added.

Are there a way to achiece something similar in EA? It is based on a model så it doesn't seem completely hopeless, but I cant find anything about attribute repositorys in general and certainly not anything about using it.

That you have to write the attribute name does remove some hope.  :)

If it was possible with an attribute repository I'm fairly certain that I can outcompete erwin.  :D

General Board / Re: EA Linux

It will. Have tried. :-))
As I understand it the Linux version is basically the Windows one running on an emulator. Works well for me, I use both.

General Board / Note formatting, was: "Empty lines in rtf doc
« on: September 25, 2004, 08:18:06 am »
Thank you
And of course if one starts down this road then pretty soon one have extended the word macro to understand some html tags for simple formatting, and possible file inclusions.
It would however be a bit more elegant if EA had support for relative simple documentation features like this. Professional looking documentation is very important as it signals something how good you are at simple tings, and on the other hand i you cant make the documentation look professional why should anybody trust you to be able to create high quality solutions. :-))
EA is a very good product and just a small step avay from being marvelous.
Note formatting as is possible in this message forum editor would be a wonderful addition to EA.

General Board / Empty lines in rtf documents
« on: September 22, 2004, 05:20:22 pm »
Enterprise Architect is good, and very good value for the money. I'm trying to get more to use it in my company.

Since it works very well for me I'm down to trying to figure out the details, and one of the few annoying ones is the rtf document generation. Even after fiddeling a lot with the rtf template I find it impossible to get rid of all the empty lines.
Any ideas, hints, documents I should read?
This is a real problem for me.
I noticed some other posts regarding this some months ago, but no solutions.

A very minor issue is that I need to add a space first in package (and other notes) or the first word disappears in the rtf document. Also I can't find any rtf template for package notes and some other notes.
Any comments.
What am I missing. ;-))

I use version 4.1, build 732.

Thank you all
Ole
