General Board / Re: updateable diagrams in Linked Documents ??
« on: January 29, 2008, 11:30:12 pm »
I'm afraid that I don't have any other idea how to solve your problem. The only solution is one template for all diagrams/elements...
Anyway, the solution I talked about yesterday works (except those different templates). Create new package with new diagram (let's say custom type) and drag&drop all elements you want to document. Right-click on diagram background and open Diagram properties. On the Diagram tab check "Document each contained element in RTF" checkbox. Then put your new package into Model document class and use above-described feature for element RTF documenting.

Regarding element order... You can always use green arrows (up/down) in project browser to change the element order in package. And this order also affects order in documentation.

And how about to try to create new diagram, drag&drop all elements from different packages, and then generate documentation? I think that it is possible to set either documentation or diagram feature, which turns on documenting of elements that are only linked and not directly included in specific package.
Currently I don't have EA, I'll try it tomorrow and let you know.

I'm not sure whether this solves your problem but you can try "Model Document".

1) Create new class and select stereotype called "model document".
2) Drag&drop any package from project browser on this class
3) Select this class and use function Element -> Rich Text Format report
4) Create your document

This will generate document (RTF report) with diagrams and elements that are included in selected packages.

Hope this will help...

Tried it... One package with Actor and UseCase connected with association. Didn't work. I found out, that you also "cannot" create association in matrix (right mouse click), the 'X' mark doesn't appear, but the relation exists in the model in the end. So I decided to make a bug report, because it behaves a bit strange. We'll see...

Anyway, thanks for your fast reaction!

General Board / Relationship matrix between actors and usecases
« on: February 20, 2007, 04:55:54 am »
Hello,

I need to see a relationship matrix between Actors and Usecases. I set Link type as Association, but I cannot see any relationships although they are present in the model.

I thought the problem could be in Type of Association (I have unspecified type in the model, but I'm not able to set this type in relationship matrix). But I tried to create bi-directional association between actor and usecase but it didn't help.

Does anybody know anything about this issue? I'm using Build 802.

Thanks a lot,
Jan

I'm afraid this is impossible. You can't choose protocol type you want to use. It would be very useful. As far as I remeber, I've already sent this as a feature request to Sparx while ago... So far, nothing has changed in this area.

Another way how to do this is quite similar to the above-mentioned approach with only one difference - you don't have to choose the name of image manually.
Just export your model using funcion called "Diagrams Only Report" and don't forget to uncheck "Embed Diagram in Document". This will create RTF document (which will be useless in this case) and it also creates new folder with all diagram images where image name is automatically generated as GUID.
This approach could be useful in case you want to use more diagrams in your word document.

To tell the truth, I don't get it. How do you create that link to the attribute?

It is possible to show scenario in note (linked to an element feature) and then use note links from different elements (to this note). The problem is, that you cannot view relationship matrix (with note links) or hierarchy related to the note... But at least you can see relationships within diagram.
Anyway - I'm afraid this is not the best solution for your issue.  :(

I've just downloaded a new version and tried it very quickly. It seems to me that new features are really useful - grids, groupboxes... I missed these elements very much. Good work.

I definitely agree. But we can only hope that there will ever be a new version... They said thay will inform as about new release at the end of November (at the beginning of December at latest). But no new information is available by now.  :(

On of the benefits is that you can easily generate HTML prototype.
