Suggestions and Requests / Re: [alternate image] bind to element
« on: August 08, 2007, 04:26:15 am »
Yes, I have tried those methods.  The Stereotype system only allows you to apply an image from an external file, (EMF or WMF), or from a shapescript.  The Image Manager system does not allow you to export an image in the library.  I have found no way to export an image.

To me Sparx has a gap between the Image Manager system and the ability to apply an image to a Stereotype.  It would be great to use the Image Manager to manage all images.  Once an image is in the library the Stereotype system should become aware of it.

David,

Yes, the Image Viewer can be used to assign an alternate image to an element.  If you use the element on multiple diagrams you must set an alternate image on each instance.

I am attempting to model our server infrastructure.  I am creating a single instance of each server in a single package called servers.  I am then using this item in multiple packages to categorize the use of the server, (ie, test, development, what project it's used in, virtual versus physical, etc.)

I want to use a different icon to represent what type of server it is, (application, database, data warehouse, etc.)  It would be nice to be able to assign a specific image to the server type stereotype.  Using this technique I would only have to do it once.

I like the idea of assigning a stereotype an alternate image.  The question is, how can I use one of the images in the image library for this purpose?  The only options are to use an EMF/WMF from an external file or a ShapeScript.  I would have thought that the stereotype capability would have been aware of the built in image library.

Suggestions and Requests / RTF Documentation
« on: October 01, 2004, 07:05:22 am »
I have a request for RTF documentation generation.

I would like to be able to filter by the Version attribute.  As we work on a new version of a project we update the Version attribute of all the elements except the requirements.  This allows us to know in which version the requirement was added.  When generating reports we would like to be able to include only those elements that are in the current version.  The filtering should include such things as realization links to the requirement.  It would be nice if this was also available on the Implementation Report.

Open the diagram you want to display when you open the model.

Open the "Diagram" menu.

Click on the menu item "Set as Model Default" and you're done.

General Board / Merging

I need to merge two models that were not created as replicas.  The changes are in the same package.  What is the best method of merging these changes?

General Board / Re: SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 as Repository?
« on: August 09, 2004, 08:58:18 pm »
I have created a database on SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 and ran the SQLSvr_BaseModel.sql script.  This executed without errors.

I then Upsized the base.eap model into this database without errors.

I am running into problems adding elements onto a diagram.  I receive the following error upon dropping the element....

"Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server [-2147217833]

String or binary data would be truncated."

After clicking OK on this message dialog box the element is added to the diagram and I am able to modify it.

This message also occurs when I save the diagram.

If the model is closed and re-opened all diagrams and elements are present.

I understand that this is a beta product and may not work correctly at this point.  Please let me know if you wish me to stop posting messages about this topic.  I am going to continue testing as this is the only database server I have available from this machine at this time.

General Board / Best way to reorganize projects/packages.
« on: June 21, 2004, 03:09:29 pm »
What is the best way to reorganize diagrams and elements into subpackages?

For instance, I have several class diagrams and all of the elements for the diagrams in a single package.  I'd like to move each diagram into it's own subpackage along with the elements belonging to the class.

Would this be the prefered method?  Should I use some other technique?

This is my first attempt at using a modeling tool and I don't think I've used it in quite the best way.  Any help in generating a good set of documentation would be very much appreciated.
