Bugs and Issues / Floating License Server 401 / 403

Has anyone ever come across a situation where a single user gets 401 / 403 errors when attempting to get a license from the floating license server? I have multiple users that can checkout licenses with no issue but this one individual always receives 401 or 403 errors. We have tried from multiple machines on different networks and always get the same result. The credentials for the floating server are correct and even with all licenses checked in we still get the 401 / 403 issue for this individual. I notice in the server logs it always registers the following:

2022-03-31 10:49:27 [WARNING]: Thread 186  Floating License Error: Count failed, user not authorized for this request.

The count failed part of the message seems strange because as I say, we've done this with all licenses checked in and get the same message.

Suggestions and Requests / Support for ArchiMate Model Exchange File Format

The Open Group is working on an XMI specification for the exchange of models between tools. The review can be found here:

Currently we have a lot of models in the free Archi tool but have reached its limitations.

We have purchased several floating EA licenses but are unable to successfully import the Archi models as EA does not currently support the Open Group ArchiMate Model Exchange File Format (csv import has been equally unsuccessful). Are there plans to support the Open Group XMI format in the future?

It is actually worse than I first thought. Any pattern over the size of 64Kb cannot be imported into MySQL. The reason for this is that the XMI is stored in a single column of type "text". This type is limited to 64Kb in size.

Changing the type to mediumtext (allowing 16Mb) has no effect. Presumably the EA ORM configuration also needs updating and as Sparx are the only ones who can do this I see no way around it until a patch is issued.

Different DBMS?

Yes, previously I used SQL Server 2008 as the backend but in this instance I am using MySQL 5.6.

Using the same pattern with an eap file as the repo actually stores the image correctly.

I'm having a minor issue importing UML patterns into the EA database. They import with no problem but EA is not storing an image of the pattern saying that it was removed as the pattern was too large for the database field.

I've used the exact (and bigger) patterns in previous EA versions where this wasn't a problem. Anyone got any ideas?

I think the issue you are seeing is that windows in the main view are not part of the workspace layout. However, the Working Sets functionality provides a way to re-open a set of windows. Additionally, if you have moved a window from the center view it allows you to save the current layout and restore it later.

Hmm, I'm not sure, I don't think the main view is the problem. I wonder if it's something about the Model Mail view itself. It seems to want to open in the Main View rather than in one of the other docking areas.

I tried out Working Sets but it doesn't give the functionality I was after. Basically I just want the equivalent of Eclipse Perspectives where I have a set of views open when doing one task and another set of views open when I'm doing another. It seems like basic editor functionality to me.

General Board / Workspace Layouts

I'm having an issue with Workspace Layouts that hopefully someone can help with.

Basically I'd like a layout for Modelling and a layout for Team Review. The Team Review layout has the Model Mail window docked in the centre at the bottom of the screen and the Team Review window docked in the bottom right under the project browser. The Modelling layout does not include either window.

If I swap from Team Review to Modelling layout the Team Review window disappears (as I would expect) but the Model Mail window remains. If I close the window and revert back to Team Review layout the window does not reappear yet the Team Review one does.

This behavior makes the Workspace Layout function pretty useless as I have to constantly close and open windows; something I though layouts were supposed to prevent.

General Board / Active Baseline display

Does anyone know of an easy way to find the currently active baseline for a package?

For example, if I have 3 baselines for a package and restore to version 2 how do I (or more realistically other team members) know that any changes made to this package are being made against version 2 (the "active" baseline) and not version 3?

I could also be missing the point on baselines so if that's the case please let me know - I don't find the Sparx documentation in this area very enlightening.

Different themes re-enable the horizontal scroll bar. I don't think there's anything about the auto h-scroll.

For those who are wondering - Visual Studio 2010 is one of the styles that  turns on the horizontal scroll bars although you still get the auto horizontal scroll effect.

Thanks Geert, I will try a different theme. My earlier thoughts about moving the window to the left side were incorrect anyway - it still does it.

I'm wondering if my machine is fast enough for this behaviour. There is a noticeable lag between the movement of my cursor and movement of the window "view". By the time the view starts moving I've got fed up of waiting and moved my cursor.

I did a forum search but didn't come up with anything. Surely I can't be the only one that thinks this is an abysmal part of the UI?

I can solve it by putting the project browser on the left but I prefer it on the right!

Does anyone know how to turn this off and have a horizontal scroll bar instead? It is starting to infuriate me. I've looking in Tools->Options and can't find anything.

I just tested this theory by adding a couple of searches but it doesn't result in a file in that location. EA has to be persisiting them somewhere though because they survive a shutdown and startup of EA.

Hi Everyone,

Over this last weekend our working environment has been virtualised. This involved wiping local machines and now I connect through a virtual client to my desktop. So far, so good, but when I start Enterprise Architect, all my user defined searches and patterns are no longer available. I had assumed (incorrectly) that my searches and patterns would be saved within my model in the SQL Server database.
I do have access to a backup image of my old machine but only in terms of browsing files. Does anyone know where EA keeps user defined searches and patterns? If it's in the registry I may have a problem. Recreating them all from scratch will take days, particularly the searches.

*** UPDATE ***
Patterns are stored with the model, I was being dumb. I am still missing my searches though.

I had the same problem. It would seem that since v9.3 the patterns are not included in the model's resources. You need to import them manually before you can make use of them. You can find them at: http://www.sparxsystems.com/resources/developers/uml_patterns.html. Unzip the file to any location then go to your model in EA and open the resources view. Right click on UML Patterns and select Import UML Pattern. Find the directory where you unpacked the xml files and select the pattern you want. Once imported you will be able to use the GoF patterns from Toolbox.
