Tagged Value Note
« on: November 29, 2005, 02:59:50 am »
Hi,

i create different Tagged Values with the window Tag Definitions. I add the Tagged Values to different classes, now i add notes to the Tagged Values. After that i save it as uml profile but when i import the profile the notes from the Tagged Values no longer available.
Is it a bug, or do i something wrong?

Thanks

Hi Manu,

Try defining the tagged value as an attribute on the <<stereotype>> class, then in the Notes field for the attribute you can put something like "Description: Your notes". After saving and importing your profile any stereotyped class you create will have a tagged value with "Your notes" as the description (shown at bottom of the Tagged Values window).

The help file has more info here. Shout if you need more help.

Hi Neil,

thanks for your answer. I have done it in the way as you said, but it doesn't work. I use the EA in version 4.5.
I take a look in the xml file which the EA creates to save information of the profile. All my Tagged Values are present, but in the attribute in the xml file, where the information about my notes should stand is an empty string and I don't know why.
What can I do or what do I wrong?

Thanks

What build number? I think we changed the way profiles worked around that time so I'll have a go with an early 4.5 and a late 4.5 and get back to you... (unless you want to download EA 6.0, of course!)

OK, I've just tried it using EA 4.50.740 (nostalgia!) and it works fine. Here's a step-by-step:

1. From the Profile toolbox, drag a Profile element onto a diagram to create a package with <<profile>> stereotype.
2. Open the package's diagram.
3. From the Profile toolbox, drag a metaclass element onto the diagram, tick "Class" and "OK".
4. From the Profile toolbox, drag a stereotype element onto the diagram, give it a name like "myStereo".
5. Select the stereotype element and F9 to open the attributes dialog.
6. Enter an attribute name like "myTag" and enter "Description: This is a note" in the notes field. Press "Save".
7. Right-click the diagram, "Save as Profile", give it a name and press "Save".
8. Open Resource View, right-click on "UML Profiles" and import the profile.
9. Drag and drop your stereotyped class onto the diagram.
10. Open Tagged Values window (Ctrl+Shift+6)
11. Click once to select the stereotyped class - your tagged value "myTag" should be visible in the Tagged Values window.
12. Click the tagged value to select it and at the bottom of the Tagged Values window you should see:

myTag
This is a note

It works the same with EA 6.0. If this isn't what you are expecting to see please let me know.

Hi Neil,

thank you very much, it works. Which I differently made was my Package wasn't of the type profile . This was obvious my error.
