Connectors in Use Case Diagram into the background
« on: March 07, 2012, 03:14:11 am »
Hello,

how may I get Connectors into the background of UseCases.
I know howto hide Connectors, but I want to still be able to see them. But it is annoying that the Connector-lines cross my UseCases at the front. Is there any way to change that and if it is possible how do I change it?

Thanks a lot!

Frankly I doubt that this would add value to the diagram. How would a reader know that this is an association targetting a different element? Wouldn´t he be tempted to assume that we have an non-navigational link to the crossing use case because he can not figure out where it really starts and where it ends?

To answer your question: To the best of my knowledge there is none.
However there are various ways of manipulating the routing of connectors so my proposal is to try this way.

I think the answer is to upgrade.  There are more options to control connectors both in their routing (have the connector line go anywhere you want) and shape (curved, straight etc.)  and you can now show a connector jumping over another one rather than just crossing it.

I imagine a diagram where two connectors cross behind a use case element. Then its up to the reader to interpret the smoke signs.

Also reminds me on a couple of "powerpoint" slides where there were so many arcs that the only association was: "Indians!".
