Embedding Documents in Notes
« on: February 21, 2002, 09:03:08 am »
Does EA provide the capability to embed documents e.g. a word document, xls document in a note. Therefore a user might just be able to double click on the icon for the embedded document and go straight to the document?

I looked through EA and didn't find this capability. Any plans of having such a capability?

Hi,

I think waht you are asking for is already there in the form of 'Hyperlink' elements.

On the same small toolbar that has the Note and Text element, there is a button to add a Hyperlink element. Add one and set the target address to a Word document, PDF file, text file - or anything you have a default handler for in Windows (or a web page of course)

Yuo cant embed these in notes directly, but you can embed them in diagrams and link to lements with note links

Hope this helps,

I think that this is an extension of what I was asking for in my posts of 18 Jan, in that it would be good if the linked files for an object (files tab in object properties) were shown in the rtf documentation.  Otherwise, there's nothing to indicate to a reviewer of the documentation that these files exist.

As an added bonus, could you get it so that the links actually import into Word as hyperlinks (currently they just show as text eg "Doc1::C:\mydoc.doc") - rtf files do support this

Thanks,  James

gsparks,

That's not quite what I was looking for really.  Currently the hyperlink note simply states the path of the file. What I was hoping to see was the the icon of the file type e.g. xls, word, powerpoint etc.
