Issues Issues
« on: February 21, 2002, 03:15:11 pm »
1.  I have issue objects sprinked throughout a reasonably large component view.  Is there any way to get a report of just the issue objects in the model?

Also, its not clear in my mind when to use an Issue object, and when to create an entry in the Project Issues list on the System view.  What do you recommend?

2.  If I create an Issues from the Project ... Issues menu command, this type of issue has more fields and a report cdan be produced.

If I use the System view and add an issue to the Project Issues tab then this appears to be yet another set of issues that is not printable.

What gives here?

Thanks,
Larry

Hi Larry,

You can get an RTF document with just Issues and Change elements if you highlight ALL the elements in the RTF Exclude List. You would probably deselect Show diagrams and Child diagrams as well.

As the EA backend is an MS JET database, the possibility always exists to report using Crystal Reports, MS Access or some other report writer - if you wish to pursue this I can supply some details on where to find the relevant information.
The same also applies to the Project Issues list.

We are looking into adding some additional simple reports for the Projects Issues, To Do lists etc. This is a little way off yet.

FWIW, I already have this in an .EXE so you don't have to fret about it.   If people want, I can try to pull it out of my bigger program and post it to the site.   I'm wanting to add a template file to let the information be formatted to it.   Right now I'm generating HTML files and I could add RTF support if people want that as well.

Let me know and I'll work on it over the weekend and post middle of next week.

Reporting is something I'm very interested in.  In particular, "what affects" and "what is affected by" impact analysis reports eg if a requirements object is changed, which use cases, which classes, etc are affected?  In reverse, this is ... if I change a class, who do I need to tell ... this may be other developers or it may be users who requested a requirement.

The need here is to be able to selectively follow any type of relationship between any types of model object.

Steve,

I'm interested in reporting too.  I'd be very interested in getting something that could produce reports, especially in HTML.

Larry,

Actually, I'm changing my mind and building a bigger tool for this.   I can try to put together an installable version of this in the ensuing week or so.   Right now I have all the reports EITHER generating ASCII text files, to printer directly, or to HTML.   I am not brave enough to tackle RTF.

Some of the things I've been able to generate beyond the To Do lists are a general listing of all types and codes used within EA (I'm also trying to document the tables and relationships for the tutorial), integrating MSP into EA and vice versa, and coming up with something I call Alert Status... where you can set in this tool, for example, that 3 "issues" are yellow allert, 4 is red alert and to then generate the alert INC file for web dashboards and drill downs.   Still ironing out the kinks on this last one.

HTH and I'll let y'all know how this comes along...
