Split lifeline in sequence diagram
« on: July 03, 2002, 08:20:03 am »
Month's i've been looking for a good uml tool. And now I found Electronic architect. Currently i'm trying to draw a sequence diagram in the trial version. Everything seems to be ok and electronic architect almost contains all features I need. But I have one problem.

How can I split a lifeline of an object in multiple lifelines?

I'm note sure if this feature is supported in the newest version of uml. So I'll explain why I'd like this feature.

In an object x must be greater then 0. If this is false all messages after the check on x must be skipped. And the lifelines come together. Then a message will be sent to another object and the current object wil be destroyed.

Is there maybe a better way to draw this in an uml sequence diagram?

The feature I'm looking for is also known as recursive
And the program I found was Enterprise Architect of course :)

Following the announcement of the version 3.10 - Build 485 released on April 24th, 2002, 4:20am, it must be possible from that version to split lifelines. It said:

"- Sequence diagrams now support incremental method invocation (recursion) and the ability for messages to extend the recursive method activation (message context menu)"

I'm using version 3.10 (build 496) but i'm not able to use the recursive function. Is there a doc. or tut. describing how to use this feature in Enterprise Architect. Or could someone give me a hint?
